Distance Between Cages?

I was wondering if ther is a minimum distance for cages to be apart. As I mentioned in my earlier post, (https://www.chameleonforums.com/not-fair-30002/) there is an adult male for sale in my town but the cage would have to be in the same room as Amy's. They would be on opposite walls and at opposite ends of the room (diagonally across the room). Would this be far apart enough? How well can they actually see across a room? Thanks for any input guys!

Mine were fine with the cages actually touching untill I bred them. Now I have a piece of corplast between them. I was worried my males would break their necks with all the head jerking going on... lol

My cages are directly beside one another with plastic between to avoid seeing eachother. My room has just moved and now I have rows across from others, which makes it tricky for the sight of eachother. I've got another row of tubs & stuff in the middle of cham rows (as I didn't want to cover doors too)to eliminate the chams being able to see the other rows of chams.

Is someone we know and love going to give in and get a male???????? It is about time. And the way your chams are they wil be thrilled with what ever you decide to do.:D Go for it.

I like the bamboo idea, Very appealing look wise and dose the job well allowing for air flow. Nice one benny;) going to have to steal that one

Mine are side by side too with a visual barrier and it seems to work fine, you will know if they can see one another by the way they will start to behave, the male for instance will want out, or start to display, female, depending on are age might display receptive/non-receptive colours etc.

I hope you do get him Tiff, my male has a completely different character to my female, and is really friendly, my female will hand feed, but if she's gravid.. forget it!

They can see very well and across from each other would not work. You've got to think of something else. Side by side would be good with a towel or something between them.

I agree. I've always understood that chams have binocular vision that can "zoom in" on points of interest. If a bird or snake is your primary concern, you're gonna ask mother nature for some sort of defense...right? Try to put the cages next to each other. You can share resources a lot better too. 48" uvb, easy or shared misting setup, one place for all the fun!

Yes, they can see quite far, quite easily. If you can see from one cage to the other and spot a chameleon, they can too. You will want to put a barrier between cages.

Due to space constraints, I have cages on opposite walls, facing each other. In one case, it doesnt bother the male opposite the female - he's not interested in breeding. The female doesnt care about him either, confirming his uselessness as a breeder (which doesnt make him any less of a pet). But this female does care about another male that she can see diagonally, and he "cares" about her too. So, I have had to put a cover (just a towel) over half the females cage on one side so that they can not see each other, even at distance.

I keep several of mine together and put aquarium paper between the sides that touch. I think I may try the bamboo, that is a good idea too. I like keeping them together because I can share lighting, etc.

Interesting that on Jim's site http://www.chameleoncompany.com/ There is this pic.

I don't see any barriers in front of those cages. Possibly removed for the pic?

I think im going to switch to the bamboo. I asked my Chams and they said it would look much better... hehe
