Do crickets get stuffed?

Yesterday was the first day I used Kale and Collard Greens for my crickets...

After a few hours, I went to check them out and they were all either belly up or just not moving!?

Another couple of hours, and some of them started to climb up the side screen... this morning more of them were "back to normal"...

Is this normal? Did I put too many leafs inside? Their bellies did look stuffed!!

Thanks!!

Belly up? Hahaha the image of this is just funny. :) Did they come back to life or did some of them die? You have some piggy crickets! :p

These guys are full!!!!!! Funny, with their legs stretched out! You touch them and they move... like saying: no more, please!!!

That's some great stuff Mesnik! hahaha I can't stop laughing, looks like me after a big meal.

Yesterday about 70% of them were like that... I don't know who flipped them? Maybe they are conspiring against me???

Today, maybe 3 to 5% are like that...

Oh!! Maybe they want me to scratch their bellies??!!!

Oh!! Maybe they want me to scratch their bellies??!!!

I can just picture that!!! HAHA Stuffed crickets is such a funny thought...but the image of them wanting a belly scratch... PRICELESS!!! Thanks for the chuckle, my friend heard me burst out laughing and thought I was crazy till he read the post too!

I don't think they were molting... they were so round!!!

Maybe melting!?

I don't cut their legs...this was one that was very chubby and the one that came out in focus. We are not at the point of cooking cricket legs for lunch!!!

Aren't all their legs detachable? You pull on them and they come off sooo easy!???

;P

I would venture to guess the cause for the crickets unusual behavior is due to some gasses that are in the container. Fermenting apples without enough ventilation can cause similar cricket behavior. I am not sure what you are feeding your crickets, but the crickets usually get back to their normal self after the lid is taken off and fresh air allowed to get in.
