Do I need different lights?

New setup, went from a small 16 x 16 x 20 to an 18 x 18 x 36 repti-breeze enclosure today as my veiled is too big for the small enclosure. He's almost 5 months old.

I have a MistKing mister, a bio-bubble drinking fountain (which he does use) and a large branch with faux foliage on it.

Lights are a reptisun 10.0 uvb cfl which i run during the day, and i have a 50 watt infrared basking lamp that is on 24-7.

I took a picture of it (see attachment), and I'm not sure the lights are enough anymore; as other setups i see on this forum are much brighter.

Do I need to get a different light setup - or is what I have good?

Hello! Im no cham expert but I do love my reptisun led + uvb fixture it has the Tube UVB light as well as extremely bright and efficient LEDs for plant growth and other leds for light. They are cheap on amazon depending on what length you want. I would say after your current compact uvb bulb expires i would look into one that is 18 inches long or so. The reptisun is actually really solidly build and sleek looking i love it. They recommend 5.0 uvb lights for smaller enclosures like the 16,16,36 the 10.0 bulbs are more for snakes and other reptiles that need more heat and uvb i believe or for larger enclosures. The 5.0 's will be cheaper anyway. Most recommend the tube uvbs not the compact fluorescent ones. Also i would highly recommend getting your fella some heavier branches near the top as well as more greenery they really feel more calm and friendly when they have cover near the top also i know its not easy! Also it wont be long and ur guy will unfortunately probly need an even bigger enclosure unless you figure out a nice little free range setup to go along with ur cage! Hope this helps!

thats one weird light position... is it okay to be like this? does it make some ill effect on reptiles eyes.. ?

I would not have the red basking light on all the time they need darkness to sleep also the need a temp drop at night

I agree. At night you should have total darkness so that they can properly sleep.

10.00 seems a bit much of a UVB in that enclose. I could see if it was heavily planted but this is not

I would suggest getting a tube UVB light. It covers more area, it will make it brighter but also give more UVB coverage. Also, ditch the red light for an incandescent house bulb for his basking spot and make sure it goes off at night. It will also help brighten your cage. Chams need a day night schedule to regulate hormones and any light, even the infrared, will disrupt his sleep. They also need the temp drop at night for their metabolism. Unless it gets below 45 in your house then you won't need any extra heat at night.

Todd at Light Your Repriles is great, if you email him with details of your set up he can guide you to what you need. I just bought a quad fixture from him. His lights are amazing and really make a difference in the cage.
