Do screens block uvb?

I was recently talking to a Cham expert on uvb bulbs and much more, but she was saying the screen actually blocks about 50% of the uvb's light from penetrating into the screen cage as most cham owners have, so she said she uses a 10.0 uvb instead of a 5.0. Has anyone else heard of this or know of any testing that has actually been done to back this? My Cham seems great under his 5.0 but if a 10.0 is the healthier way to go then that's what I want to do! Just wanted a little more feedback on this topic.

Thanks guys!

I am sure there has been. Check out one of the reptile lighting company's websites, like ExoTerra, or ZooMed. You may find some information there. You can also try to google it, or maybe even Wikipedia.

yes, but also remember some chams are highly sensitive to the unatural lighting.10.0 may be better or some instances, but its also double the strength and can irritate their sensitive eyes.

I have a 5.0 in my set up now and also have 10.0 on the side just in case. This is my chams new set up so I'm going to just give him a few and see how he does. Thanks

Nice cage set up?How do you get the branches to stay up?
I actually just set this cage up about 2 days ago, my girlfriend seen this setup on Pinterest it's pretty much step by step I'll send the link. BUT TO ANSWER YOUR ? Simply thumbtack through the screen into fresh cut branches, I know your thinking not sturdy but it's very sturdy and doesn't damnage the screen! Here's the link http://www.muchadoaboutchameleons.com/2012/04/my-chameleon-room-cages.html?m=1

Will do thanks for the info, if ou don't mind me asking, what do you use 5.0 or 10.0 ?
As a matter of fact, I use one of the CFL bulbs. Copy and paste this address to see it. http://www.exo-terra.com/en/products/reptile_uvb150.php I specifically chose this light, to replace the 100 I had, because of the height of my cage. Of course, I consulted with my vet, first, and he said it was a good choice. There is a TON of information regarding lighting, on their website, also.

I have a Jacksons cham and i use a 5.0. I got a tube light but felt that it was defective as it seemed really dim so now I have a double bulb fixture that is for the basking bulb in one side and uvb on the other. Instead of doing it that way I just put 2 -5.0 uvb bulbs in so that it covers a larger area and have a separate basking bulb that has a more narrow beam that I can control so that it only covers his basking area. This seems to work well for me.

Preparedness=Awesome!! You can never have too many "just in case" things for your cham!

I like the space saving design of the double dome. I once had a heat lamp dome slide up against a straight bulb UVB fixture, and it melted it. Needless to say, I have been weary of having too much weight on top of the screen since. Now, granted, it was a desert setup for my beardies, but with my being a volunteer firefighter, I know what can happen! Just my personal preference.
