Do you use reptisafe? Is it essential?

I use reptisafe for my cham misting my turtles water my snakes water my geckos water and always have... U c.an even say I swear by it :) I even use It when I make ice cubes for the top of my cham cage.. I'm one step away from using It for myself

I use an RO filter for the water I use. What does repti-safe do? Does it just remove the chlorine?

Never used any water conditioner. Water comes straight from the tap for my animals!

As I stated above I'm a conditioner believer but as stated above I've never heard any problems with not conditioning. But Id get ur water tested before bailing on conditioners

Not sure how water differes from the Us to us in the Uk but in the last 10 years my reps have all been fine. I have heard of many people who have had great results from using conditioners too :D

Yes, as far as I know thats all it does.

I use to have really nice well water, and I didnt use it.

Now, my water is pretty iffy, so I use it to remove the chlorine.

Also concerning another thread about heating your res. for your mister, if your using RO water then you have no need to worry about bio film or algae since there is not even a trace amount of nitrates left behind after it is filtered with an RO

I never had an issue using tap water back in the 90's before I started using filtered water. But if you live in an area with hard water. You will start seeing a build up of minerals on the leaves of your plants and if you use any exo terras for babies or pygmys you will see hard water stains on the glass terrariums. Mainly just an aesthetic complaint. But I have noticed that my chams dont scratch at their eyes since I switched to filtered water. I cant proove that was the cause but I did notice with the switch to filtered water and the change to all schefflerra plants made a huge difference in the eye issues some of my chams were having yrs ago. Dont know if it was the ficus plants or the tap water causing the itchy eyes?

I too use water conditioner because our water is hard water. I am planning on having a R/O system installed eventually. but until then I use water conditioner:D

If your water isnt very good, by all means use products/processes to treat it.

Water for me and my chameleons and even my frogs comes straight from the tap. I've kept frogs and fish in tap water for decades, and chameleons for over one decade and never had any trouble resulting from my tap water.

just an fyi, chlorine can be evaporated off water within 24hrs. Fluoride is a different story.

Lots of places dont use chlorine anymore for that reason. They now use Chloramines instead. Chloramine doesnt just outgas overnight like chlorine would. Both can be removed by boiling - though to remove the chloramine you have to boil way longer than you would with chlorine. Ascorbic acid (vitamin C) can also do the trick.

good info.

It's hard to rate water especially when it can differ so much from such close proximity.

Is it recommended to use water that bypasses a softener first? IE well water?

exactly why i use an RO. even with repti-safe i think if your tap has fluoride it will still be in the water. Living in LA county i have fluoride and many other things in the water, and as im sure you guys know fluoride is very toxic.
