i just got a new male panther chameleon and he has a 4ftx2ft cage. I put a large pothos and croton in it to give him his own little jungle. Did I put too much?
It looks like a good amount of foliage to me. As long as they can get around the cage you are ok. You may need to pinch back the pothos in the future so the croton get enough light.
It looks like a happy home! I have some suggestions that may help...
1, I highly recommend moving the heat lamp an inch or three off the top of the cage. Chams are known to walk upside down on the screen and can literally burn themselves if the heat lamp is too close. If you do raise the lamp off the screen then remember to also raise the basking vine higher as well, so his basking spot stays in the right temperature (which I can see you're smartly gauging with a probe! )
2, you may want to add some more vines / pathways for him to walk about. You'll probably be fine for a long while if your new boy is youngish, but they like to walk about so the more areas they can walk on the better. You may be surprised how much the adults explore - it's really fun to watch them get into it =)
3, adding some foliage (even fake plants) around the basking spot will help him feel less exposed / stressed when he's sun bathing.
