Dripper vs Misting

Aloha,
I just wanted to share my learnings from my male veiled, Icarus. When I first received I would mist him 2-3 times a day and I would notice that he would start to sprint (or the arboreal equivalent of a sprint) away from me and try to climb on the ceiling. I read a few forums and concluded that he just hates being misted. So I adjusted my dripper (which I previously never saw him use) to a branch near one of his basking spots and he ran right over and started to lick the branch. So now I only mist the cage and the plant and I drip the branch, and its working out great! I reccomend this for anyone having the same problem of a mist-ophobic cham. :)

My chams were the same way, hated being misted and I always had a dripper going in addition to misting. I used a Monsoon automatic misting system (which is crap by the way). Then I switched over to an Aquazamp system with a raindome. The mist came out so fine that they did not mind it at all and the raindome is perfect to replace the dripper. I also found the Aquazamp used more water but I had less drainage which to me means that it stayed in the atmosphere of the cage and acutally did improve humidity.

My male starts to panic a bit when I start misting until he finds a spot where water will hit the leafs and just remain there as if it's raining.

My female is a little weird. She just starts to panic and run into where the misting is going and just stays there getting wet :D

I have tried a dripper but I got no responses so I removed it.

yea its not recommended to spray them directly. my cham hates it too. you can spray in an upwards direction so that it falls on them. i do that when my dude is shedding. sometimes i leave the dripper going on a super slow drip and i still mist on top of it.

I have one HabbaMist which has been working well for almost two years, but since the cage is huge and I'm sort of remodeling it, I was going to get another one. But I can't find the same type of HabbaMist.

I ordered a ReptiRain... which leaked the first time I used it...

And I've heard so many bad reports about basically all water spraying/fogging/dripping machines that I'm about to give up. Even with the one HubbaMist I still hand-sprayed the plants that didn't get wet, but I was hoping to finally eliminate that need.

Can anyone recommend a good misting machine?

Second that on the mistking. Mine hates the mister as well so I only turn it on first thing in the morning then turn it off before leaving for work. Then I have the dripper going all day. Once the monsoon goes I will be getting the mist king.

Misting machine

I'm new to chameleons but not reptiles. I have a good ideas of what I need but I'm trying to figure out how to keep the humidity up in a cage that I'm going to build. I'm wondering if anyone has used or knows anything about the Exo terra monsoonrs400. Does anyone have any comments about this automatic mister? I need an automatic mister because I live in North Dakota and it dosent get real humid up here most of the year.

Do I need a mister and a dripper? I live in colorado and have not gotten a chameleon yet but trying to get prepared. I am thinking about getting a Panther.

Thanks for the help

I have both but only because I had a spare mister. I run the mister first thing in the am and once in the afternoon. Then I have the dripper going all day and night. I live in WI. Seems to be working for my guy. I do see that most hate the mister which mine is one of them so this is why it is only running as little as it is. I would love to get the rain dome just takes a lot of cage top space.
