I have the dripper going all day long, Im confident tht my drainage system wont let water pool up in the bottom. Right now the dripper seems to serve no purpose other than keeping my humidity up 1 or 2% Young sky crawler only drinks after a good misting, he's very curious of the dripper and not shy of the thing. He just doesnt seem to fully understand its purpose. Not to mention, for me working 7-4 even 5 some days the dripper Is a standby water source... He'll figure it out eventually. So yeah, to answer your question, continue with misting.
Since installing my little drippers I have to say that I don't struggle to keep the urates from having orange in them. My little girl (4 mo) drinks right from the drip in the morning when I refill it and I have an adult female that will stand under it and let the drip drop onto her head. What personalities chameleons have. Even my adult male who I struggled to make him drink (I think because of his bad eyesight) drinks now because the drip goes by his basking spot. They are a pain in the neck to regulate. Once I have a good drip I don't move the container but take a pitcher and fill it without moving it. Works for me!
I still keep misting. It helps with the humidity and the shedding.
Whether or not you need to continue misting will depend on if your chameleon uses the dripper (is it set in a way that your chameleon uses it for drinking?) AND whether or not your enclosure humidty is adequate with/without misting.
Only you can know, danni
just a quick up date - the dripper was set up yesterday, didnt see monty drink from it, but he was watching it, set the dripper up again to day & he has been drink from it.
its helping with the humidity in the viv, i have it dripping onto a live plant, & some of the drips fall onto the floor, so i have paper towls to soak up the drips, i only really want to mist in the morning & in the evening (so i can be out with worring)
I have set up a DIY dripper with a 10 litre resevoir, I turn it on in the morning when the lights come on and it drips all day till I turn it off at night. Mine drinks from the dripper, and habitually first thing in the morning, but has opportunity to drink all day.
