Dubia roach food mold??

I've been keeping a colony of Dubias for about 3 months. They are doing great, and have even starting reproducing. Unfortunately, the cat food I use to feed them keeps getting mold on it. I have to clean out their Rubbermaid pretty often. Does anyone have any ideas how to stop mold growth in their bin? Or alternative primary food sources for them that would not have this problem?

Cat Food is not recommended for gutloading dubias because of all the protein that could cause gout in your cham. Use the same veggies and cricket crack you would for crickets. If you use fruit, it tends to mold quickly so you have to change it out every other day or so.

huh, It's surprising that you can't use cat food. I've read all over the net that its recommended for dubias, even have a friend who uses it exclusively for his colony. It's always great to have actual info. from serious owners with real experience, thanks alot! Love this website. Really want to make sure my cham is at 110%. I've also heard alot about oranges being good for the dubias. What is your take on them?

Oranges are fine in moderation, they have alot of acid and if you use them everyday, it "could" upset your chams stomach. Just like with any veggies and fruits, you want to mix it up and not use the same ol stuff all the time. Now if you want to keep two bins of dubias and feed the breeders cat food that's fine. Just make sure your a feeding the feeders the good stuff. ;)
