Dust Mites

A few years back, I had some fruit fly cultures that got overwhelmed with tiny brown mites, that basically looked like dust on the top of the culture... I'm sure some of you have seen this before (especially with the cultures that use aspen fiber in them). Anyways, I noticed it again with some cultures I got 2 months back, and figured I'd break out the microscope and see what they looked like up close. I was able to get 2 pictures, and they're really pretty creepy. These are so small that they literally look like dust, and you can only see them when they're in groups, as a single mite is way too small to see with the naked eye. They eventually ruin any culture they get into, and they're a pain to get rid of. It helps if you use wax paper instead of aspen fiber as a platform for them to live on. Thought everyone would enjoy seeing this.
