Dwarf Jackson's Chameleon

I was at my local reptile store and I found this beautiful captive bred baby dwarf Jackson's chameleon. I asked one of the employees about it and he said that they only require UVB. Is this true? Thanks :)

Are you sure that it's really CB ? The chances to find Trioceros jacksonii merumontanus juveniles at a pet shop are nearly 0%. They prefer natural sunlight, as often as possible. If you keep them near a window you can just put a 25 watt spot abouve the cage.
There's only one difficult thing with merus: They need high night temperature drops. Are you sure that you can provide them where you live ?

Well, it was a baby. It's a great a reptile store called Medusa L.A. They're very knowledgeable.

Well could be. Sometimes you can get the temps to be warm enough with only the UV bulb, but more likely than not you will need a weak bulb as well to add a little heat. I actually don't know what the exact temps are for Mt. Merus but they're probably gentle, maybe 75-80 F.

Such an extra heat bulb is complete unnecessary for keeping Trioceros jacksonii merumontanus, especially when you live in Florida...

Like I said, I don't really know the specifics on this species, so I was putting it out there as an option in case the proper heat was not being reached. This person could like their house at a nice and chilly 60 F for all I know lol

I have kept a few dwarf Jackson's over the years and I have always provided them a place to bask...but not a very hot one...and I live in Ontario.

They also need supplements like other "montane" chameleons do.

Well, that store is in Los Angeles and I have to think that in Los Angeles it's not necessary to provide a lot of extra heat for a Jackson's.

From everything I've found online they are a high end reptile store. They will come to your home to help create the reptile or fish environment you want. It would not surprise me at all that such a store would only carry captive bred chameleons as that's the best ecologically/environmentally friendly thing to do.

They're very nice people. All the animals (reptiles and fish) are in great care. I would recommend this place (even though its a little pricey) to anyone that lives in the Los Angeles area. :)
