Eartha trouble

I talked to Trace a bit this morning.
Would love any ideas or opinions ...
Kristina?
Kent?
Or anyone for that matter.
Here is a picture I took today.
Maybe she's just getting old.:(
Everyone needs to go to the vet for check-ups, I am waiting for poop and we'll take a trip ... in the mean time ...

The situation:

She had trouble eliminating the other day (only urates were evacuated and they were pure white) She couldn't get the fecal matter out.
The next day she was successful and it was huge.
She has not pooped since and she is not eating.
Her eyes seem a bit sunken in to me (especially at night when she is asleep) and she does seem a bit hefty.
I provided her a place to dig and lay eggs, just in case.
She is still drinking well.
She is 3 years old.
Her eyes are always open in the day and her coloration seems good.
She got very feisty (even tried to bite me) when I removed her to examine and feel for eggs (couldn't detect any).
She moved away quite quickly when I released her back into her enclosure and went all speckly.

You said she's three years old....was she raised from pre-adult by the people you got her from...or do you mean she has been in captivity for three years?

Does she show these spots along with a dark background at any time? (They do get spots when receptive and when annoyed.)

She wasn't mated in the last 6 or 8 months, was she? (I've never known a Senegal to produce eggs without being mated...but that doesn't mean it doesn't happen.)

Was the feces moist and with that "sausage in a casing look"?

She does get dark (usually under her basking lamp) but I haven't noticed spots.

3 years is a good guess. Trace acquired her as a young animal and she has been a LTC since.

She has never been mated.

Yes, the feces was as you describe and a light tan color.

She is mostly showing spots when annoyed by me.

Thanks Lynda.

Well, that was a "bust"...you gave all the answers that don't give me any indication of what's going on!

If she is only 3 she should have a couple more years of life.

The feces doesn't sound "wrong".

She hasn't been mated...and she's not showing the dark background/spots together that would indicate that she's gravid.
She looks plump...but she looks good in the photo.

How much do you feed her and what insects has she had recently?
I'm assuming that you treat her like kitty and agnes regarding supplements?

She tried to BITE you?? That's odd in and of itself. Sorry to hear she's got you worried , though. At this point I would think a vet visit with bloodwork is about the only thing that'll hopefully tell you what's going on. As long as she's been in captivity, and had a pretty peaceful life compared to a wild existence, parasites probably would not be the problem as they're generally designed not to overly harm their host, under normal stress levels.

Yeah ... it's puzzling.

She regularly eats crickets, dubia, flies and superworms.
It's just really odd for her not to eat.
She is fed every other day and she is on the same supplement schedule as the veileds.
I was worried she was impacted, but (as I said) she managed to evacuate that huge feces.
I wonder if there is another one behind it.
I will try a warm bath later and I think I'm going to bump the wattage on her basking lamp as well (it's a 25 watt now).
The weather has gotten a bit cooler here, especially at night. She may need to have the opportunity to get warmer.

has there been any change ?

OPI

I have determined that she has been too cold and is possibly impacted.
I have raised the temperature in her basking spot in two stages.
I went to a 40w bulb yesterday and graduated to a 65w this afternoon.
I have also been giving her very warm soaking baths which she responds very well to.
She turns a beautiful light green (the color I am used to for her) when she is soaking and just stays in the bath with her front feet on the edge of the container while I dribble warm water down her back.
I have been gently massaging her abdomen and above her back legs as well, to loosen things up. She is too bulgy back there, but I am quite certain now that there are no eggs.
I have had luck with this method of getting a chameleon to poop in the past so ... hopefully.
I will keep you all posted.

A hopeful development:

Eartha just evacuated a great amount of (pretty runny) urates ...very white.
She has been getting copious amounts of water.
I think she is working on moving some fecal matter as I type ... very active right now.
She just had a warm bath and massage ... it seems to be (finally) having some effect.

I know Senegals don't eat fruit....but you could try to feed her just a bit of babyfood pear. Sometimes it helps.

I've noticed that as far as baby food goes ... sometimes Hermie will like one flavor over the other and only eat from one, but refuse the other. His all-time favorite is apple-chicken dinnner. he also likes plain apple and sweet potato too.

There's something called "carnivore care" taht comes as a powder that I like as well ... it's very nutritionally balanced and you just add water so you can make it to your consistency of choice.
