My 3 1/2 month old female veiled is eating dirt although I put rocks at the bottom of the pot where the plant is she continues to go down and eat it. Why?

Some chameleons are known to eat dirt seeking Minerals, or that is what is assumed at least. It is best to make sure your dirt doesn't have fertilizers in it, although the best way to prevent this is to cover it up with rocks or screening. Chameleons can develop a bad habit of eating the soil and its best that you prevent it at all costs. There is no actual reason that has been proven as to why they eat the soil, i have seen posts on here where people thought there cham was eating soil only to find out it was a female attempting to burrow to lay eggs, so make sure all ends are covered.

Ive allowed it with my chams.......as long as its 100% organic and no pebbles or small rocks, I dont see a problem with it.....animals know when they need certain things....like when dogs eat grass.....

Do you give a vitamin dusting on food?? If not, get a good one and dust the food every so often with the calcium......I would mix both together once every 2wks for their food.

hahah my dog eats dirt and grass but i havent seen my chams eat either. only bugs no veggies or soils.

the world of animals...so much to be learned and discovered. :D

Mine panther was eating soil on a regular basis - every day. I covered the soil with large river pebbles and now he chooses to bite them instead. He seems to enjoy it and he doesnt appear to hurt himself so I just leave him to it now. Make sure any rocks are large and smooth.
