eating hibiscus..

today i put Stanley in a hibiscus tree while i cleaned out his cage..
i noticed that he was taking bites out of the leaves.... i actually picked off a new fresh leaf and offered it to him and he took several bites out of the leaf as i held it for him!!!! too cool!!!!
i'm guessing this means that it is time to start offering him greens in his diet...

the question is, how do you go about feeding the greens/fruits or veggies to them? do i need to place a bit in the cup i feed him crickets in?

thanks,, lisa

A Calyptratus eating Hibiscus is nothing uncommun! They especially love their flowers as well! It is also very interesting to watch! :)

As for vegetables and fruits, i wouldn't have any insects go on them. Just remember to offer fresh food and put them a little everywhere until you find a good spot that suits your chameleon! However, keep in mind that heat and food doesn't good along for a long time, so if you put your fruits just under your lamp, it might not be a good idea! ;)

Amy used to eat her umbrella plant but seems to have grown out of it now she's a big girl! She has also eaten a small sliver of carrot too. Jann has previously posted a video of Stanley's Mum, Camille eating a hibicus flower.

I have got my Carmie to eat fruit but I had to trick her into it by cutting it in the shape of a worm, she took two bites before she caught on and wouldnt take anymore lol.

It's fun to watch them eat the plants!! They kinda stare at it like, hhhmmmm that looks good, but how am I gonna eat it???

Both of my guys love eating fruits and veggies. You can hand feed or put in a shallow bowl. I read on here that some people put is on branches in their cage. I'll attach some videos of my guys eating. They are not good videos they were both shedding and in doors with bad lighting but you'll still be able to see how it's done.

Yep, its normal! I just got me a Hibiscus for my lil panther and I am sure he is going to love it. I hear they really enjoy eating the flowers and its a non toxic plant. So no worries :)

Offer by hand, put loose in a cup or on a "plate" or stab onto the ends of twigs - it really doesnt matter :)
Or just leave the plant he already likes in the cage.

i haven't seen him show any interest in the flowers yet but i feel sure that he will.. :)

thanks, i'll keep the heat issue in mind, i don't want him eating any fermented fruits!! ;)

i previously saw some bites taken out of his schifilera plant in the cage but wasn't sure if it was him or the crickets eating on the plant.. now i'm sure it was him....:D

i may try that trick with a strawberry, i offered him a piece but i think it was too chunky for him...

yea, Stanley kinda cocked his head sideways trying to figure out how to go about getting a bite. i wish i'd had my camera with me!!!

Bless him! Amy used to sleep on top of one of her 'umbrellas' until she ate it  and had to find somewhere else to sleep, lol! :D

Jann, he ate the hibiscus leaf that i offered to him by hand, i've tried strawberries but he wasn't interested,, yet.. :)

that video of Camille tearing into the hibiscus flower reminds me of a kid getting all down into an icecream cone!!!!! she is the cuttest thing going after it!!!
thanks for the clips .... :)

Not a problem! Clea loves her hibiscus leaves. She just loves them. I think Stanley is taking after his mommy here lol

i think you're right, he ate it down to the stem as i held it for him..

yea, i'll have to put one in his new cage. it's bigger and can accomodate the plant...

placing it on the end of a stick sounds like a great idea. that way he can really get a good bite out of it without it just falling off of the branch!!
thanks for the idea...:)
