Egg dropping carpets

I just picked up 10 eggs from the floor of my female carpets enclosure. This is the second time she has just dropped them. I had a laying bin in the enclosure both times but she chose to drop them. I had another female carpet who did the same thing. Is this common? Why aren't they digging?

Another question - she laid 6 weeks ago and last week I felt her and knew she had eggs. Would these be infertiles? Held sperm? Boy, carpets are different then veileds.

Anyone got any good advice/comments about their carpet raising?

I know nothing about carpets but I have been told pretty much all chameleons can have a second clutch from retained sperm. Yea more babies!

Mine dropped them on the floor every time despite them having a laying bin (and plants). I have heard of that happening with quite a few people's as well. Check with Kevin (Dooley1) - I think some of his may have actually laid them.

I have never had a carpet dig for me only drop. I have dealt with about 7 clutches and have tried a few things. Planting a rooted plant in the laying bin may help.

Kevin is the lateralis whisperer. He doesn't count! He sings soft songs to them that causes them to dig holes and assures them they will be safe

Are these dropped eggs ruined, or is there still a chance they may hatch?

In my mind I am seeing what happens with a chicken egg falls on the floor, and its not pretty.

Not quite the same thing. Mine were all good and hatched (still waiting for one clutch) and I know other's did as well. These eggs aren't quite as fragile as a chicken egg.

Very informative article. I had been watching her and checked her first thing this morning and found the eggs. They couldn't have been dropped for two long. All 10 of them are safely in vermiculite and have started to fill out. They always seem to come out with a flat spot where pressed against another egg. I have 4 clutches of carpet eggs. I hope I am successful hatching out most of them.

And here I am ;)

The eggs should be fine even if dropped, as long as they didn't break or dehydrate beyond the point of no return. Mine almost always dig a hole and lay now. Once in a while I'll have one drop them, but it's not common.

Don't give them a choice. Take them out of their cage and force them to stay in their laying bin. It can be a week-long process. Leaving them in for a day at a time sometimes. Always allow them to eat/drink in their cage the next day though. Chances are they won't want to eat, but sometimes they will.
