hi all,
i've got a 3 month old female veiled cham and i want to get everything set up for her to lay her eggs in.
i've put a 4 inch high plastic box on top of a heat mat and filled it with play sand which i keep damp as much as possible it's in a quite secluded spot in the back of her viv for privacy am i doing the right thing?
any help in this matter would be great.
thanks brett

4 inches? That seems a little ...shallow. Veileds need at least 10 inches, no less than that. If you are taking care of her well and not over feeding her she shouldnt start laying for another 2-3 months and possibly more depending on how good you do with that. There are a lot of post on here about egg laying chambers. I suggest you look there for further detailed information. Like on which substrate to use, what mixture, what temperature, how to dress the chamber up so it is appealing ect.

Also, check out chameleonnews on the web. They have a few articles.

She's too young (previously stated) and having that substrate in there until she is ready to lay eggs might cause the occaisional problem.

Also, they laying box is too shallow (previously stated) and putting it on a heat mat might cook the eggs. She WILL dig all the way to the bottom of that 4 inch container and lay them right on the hot plastic bottom.

You're jumpin the gun a bit I think...
