Egg laying

So, I recently got a female veiled chameleon and since I got her she has been near the bottom of her cage and kind of dark, I made her a 12 in deep egg laying bin, since I believe she is looking for a place to lay eggs..but since it is 12 in deep it sits higher up than the bottom of the cage and she is still hanging out out the bottom..i've checked the egg laying bin and it looks like there was a little bit of digging..I am just worried about her staying around the bottom of the cage so much.I try not to bother her too much, since she is new and i dont want to stress her out..any advice? Thanks!!

Your bin might also be too dry. My girls all like a nice damp bin. If they aren't interested I remove it overnight and take the sand/dirt out and remoisten it, making sure it will make a ball when squeezed. I make sure she knows it was removed. Then, in the morning, it is back there when she wakes up with maybe a stick and a rock and maybe an overhanging piece of plant or plastic branch. Some like it to look like it is really the forest floor. Also, make sure her cage is covered from the start so you don't startle her when you do it in the morning.

Mine never did like the big tubs. It wasn't home and they weren't going to leave their eggs in an unknown place. I guess each cham is different.

Make a starting hole. My female won't lay until I start a hole. It's worked every time for me. Sometimes females need a starting hole.
