Egg split? (picture)

First time breeding Chameleons here. Clutch was laid 6-16-2013. I noticed yesterday morning that two were "sweating" and then last night when I checked on them, one was split. I can't really see anything inside (and don't want to touch it for fear of disturbing the baby) but it's split on one side. It's been like this for 12 hours....just wondering if it's dead. How long should I wait before I try to see if the baby is alive or not?

That "split" is exactly what you want to see from your eggs shortly after they start sweating and shrinking. That egg is pipped and will be a baby within a day or 2. In my experience, once an egg is pipped like that you are guaranteed a hatchling. Congrats!

Its when they sweat, then shrink, and do not pip within a couple days that you will have a bad egg. I usually leave them alone until I see them mold over and then remove them from the bin.

Nice! Baby panthers are always awesome. Congrats and good luck getting anything else done while they are hatching. My first clutch I called in sick to work on Monday morning and stared at the babies for the entire day.

So true! I am not getting anything done today. I am a stay at home Mom so I can't call in lol But I keep going into the chameleon room checking on my baby Temperature, humidity, and then I just stare at it

I haven't tried to feed yet, his sac is still attached...how soon should I offer food?

With panthers its possible they will eat right away but more likely after the first 2 days. I would put a few fruit flies in to see if he is interested but dont panic if they are not going after them right away. I have had some not eat at all until 3 or 4 days in. Soon enough you will be feeding crazy amounts and cleaning tiny poops all over your baby bins.

He was not interested at all in food. I have misted the plant in his enclosure, never moves towards any water. I have stared at him off and on all day but I haven't seen him drink any yet....
