Hello everyone this is my first time posting because i have a young Veiled Chameleon named Kiwi. she is not doing very well because she has had a cyst form between her eyes and needs it removed. antibiotics have failed and i would really appreciate it if this great community, from what i've seen, could help my afford this expensive surgery. if you can help even just a little i wouild be very greatful and so would Kiwi. please let her continue to grow and be loved. here is my gofundme link- (Deleted from view)

The infection on her nose needs to be cleaned out and a culture and sensitivity test done to determine that you have her on the right antibiotic. Chameleons wall off infections and the texture of the "pus" is like cottage cheese and the antibiotics will not penetrate it to killmit off.make sure she is well watered too.

I agree with a culture and sensitivity test and it's poisoned an injectible antibiotic, administered at the cyst can be used with good results. There is also the possibility of fungal infections and they are rarer internally, but if present, antibiotics can actually cause them to get worse.

i understand, i am fairly new to being a chameleon owner and i'm slowly figuring the ins and outs of being one. one culture has already been taken and 2 weeks ago we started antibiotics prescribed by our local exotic veterinarian. the antibiotics have done no good and i am hoping to raise the money to help pay for the surgery but it looks like people just want to share the story instead of help.

we would really appreciate it if you guys could spread the link and maybe help share the like in some other places you think might attract donations because im not getting much and would really help.
- Thank you.

I am offended by this post. It is your responsibility to pay for your pet's medical bills. If you can't afford it, you put her down or try to deal with it non surgically. There are plenty of scammers out there doing this sort of thing. Even if this isn't a scam, I am astonished that so many people actually expect the rest of the world help them pay for their pets/funerals/medical bills/etc. I have no problem with friends helping out, but a plea to strangers is a bit much. I have no problem with a church working to collect donations on behalf of an individual or family in need of help. I have no problem with anyone needing help from society. I do have a problem with strangers asking strangers to help pay for their pet's surgery.

The "Go fund me" link is removed from view due to violating forum rules. The thread is still open for comment (for now) in case anyone has any advice to add about treatment.

I understand where you are coming from. this was just my last resort. i completely understand how this is a common scam, but my family cam upon hard times and this was so unexpected. i can barely afford it but only from places of not the best quality from my research. i am just so attached to her and want her to get the best quality care possible. i could never put her down and giving her up would honestly break my heart. i appreciate your honesty and enjoy reading all of your posts to help better the quality of care im providing for my chameleon. i am truly sorry if this offended you.

Welcome to the forums. I recommend you give her to a rescue that takes in chameleons and has vets. They can afford to give her the medical treatment that she needs. I can recommend a good rescue if you are interested.

This.

That or learn to take a sterile needle and lance it from the rear. Sometimes just that along with a topical will do the trick. If you don't have the experience to do that, you pay a vet and learn by watching. As much as I care about all chameleons, I'm not one to pay for somebody else's.

I enjoy watching a good abscess get drained

I do agree, though. OP, if you truly care for your cham as much as you say you do, you will find some one who can take her off your hands, and relieve you of the financial burden, as well as get her the treatment and care she needs. What would you do if (God forbid) you discover she is egg bound. Or has MBD, or a broken leg, or a severe upper respiratory infection? You need to be prepared for these things before they happen. I understand not having a lot of expendable cash. We are ALL living in hard times, but the reality of it, is that it's not going to get any better. So if you want what's best for her, and I think you truly do, you will make the hard decision you need to make. Also, consider selling things to raise the money on your own. A bake sale, or a garage sale, or even online listings such as Craigslist, letgo, or varagesale. I wish you luck, but you will not be getting any pity-donations from the forums.

You should really consider applying for Care Credit most vets offices will help you apply. If not there is a new app called TAKL that works like Uber but with home chores that could help you get back on track financially. Best of luck.

Kiwi was taken to an exotic vet today to come to a clear conclusion on what the problem is. It is a respiratory infection causing a blockage to protrude. she will have surgery tomorrow to remove the abscess and i have been assured that she will be fine. my girlfriend came up with the money and will be picking her back up on Thursday.

As a new member myself I'm a little sad people aren't being more supportive. Aside from them asking for help to save a chameleon, seems they were also looking for support and reassurance. It's hard to ask for help. But sometimes not criticizing and just wishing them the best is better than being rude. I hope your Cham recovers quickly. Sorry I wasn't able to help more
