i recieved 2 chameleons from the company chameleons online. they were in horrible condition both skinny, one cant open its eye barely only when i spray it and there is some moisture rarely there is mucus around the eye none are swollen. there is no redness when he gets them going they look like they act normal but after a while they dry up and close. its a female panther. i cant take to a vet there is no vet in south texas only plastic surgeons and doctors.

Not sure where you are at in south texas but there is vets everywhere even if you have to drive an hour. Also if it's impossible to see a vet best bet is to post pictures of the cham so the experts or anyone that has had this problem can give you some info

# RM - This is a mobile vet service Dr. Edling has just started (May 2002). He makes a house call and sees as many animals as you need seen (great for multiple exotic households), charging an hourly rate plus lab & meds. Website provided is from emergency clinic where he worked prior to beginning this mobile service. At this time, it still includes his history/profile. This is a new mobile vet service in the DFW area. Although I haven't actually seen Dr. Edling yet myself, he comes highly recommended by other vets in the area and has excellent credentials. (06/02/02)
# SH - Our Iguana Mikko was examined after responses on your site concurred with my opinion that she may be suffering MBD. Looking on your vet referral info, I found Metroplex, where we had taken our sick dog for emergency treatment. Very good, very nice folks. Anyway, They were very thorough, determined that she was a he, weighing 4 pounds 6 ozs. 4 feet and 7inches long. Xrays showed him to be in fine bone health. Ms. Kiernicki was great with Mikko, very patient, and not at all upset when he gave her an impromptu poop sample--which she said was good looking and indicative of a health lizard. I would highly recommend her as a vet. PS: when we arrived around 7pm for our appointment, she was in with a little netherland rabbit having trouble delivering babies (which we have gone through also!) If you have varied pets like we do, and they get into this or that from time to time, I highly recommend Metroplex in general, and Ms. Kiernicki specifically. (07/13/02)

TF - I took in a 7 year old female who wasn't eating as well as normal. They gave her a complete exam, tested her stool for parisites, did blood work and took xrays. They seemed to know a lot about iguana care. They found the problem right away (gravid), gave me advise on the treatment, and wanted to see her back in a week for a free follow up. (03/09/01)

# JM - Sulcata tortoise and several box turtles. Jessica is a very friendly person who as far as I can tell knows exactly what she's doing when treating a reptile. The tortoise we adopted had been found with gunshot wounds in 2002, Jessica expertly repaired her. She's a very healthy tortoise today. I was given a wild box turtle after he'd been dog chewed. His entire plastron was broken, Jessica expertly repaired him, implanted a feeding tube, and treated him for infection. As of Feb,2006 it's only been 3 months since I took him in; he is now eating on his own, not sick, and doing very well. It'll be years before he's fully healed but if not for her he'd be dead now. I have another box turtle who had a respiratory infection, Jessica cured her. She's a really good veterinarian, I recommend her to local exotic keepers all the time. (02/08/06)

K - I initially took my iguanas in to have them checked over after one bit the other, but since they had never seen a vet before, I ask them to give them a good check up. It was a 3 hour drive to the vet and I was in town on business so I left my girls with them while I took care of business. When I got back to pick them up, they felt like they had just been taken out of the refrigorator. Then I ask if they checked for parasites, and they said "NO! because they can only get parasites from eating the wrong foods". I was very upset because my day had been wasted! All they did was give me antibiotics for the bite, and charged me over $100.00 (10/11/04)

Charles Blonien, DVM
Parker Animal & Bird Clinic

Comments:
Email - Dr. Blonien is extremely knowledgable with herps. Has always been thorough in diagnosis and communicates to each customer in a manner that he/she will understand. All business practices have been reputable in my experience and nothing has been treated for anything without my prior knowledge and approval. In addition staff has always been wonderful and caring to deal with. Personally, in my experience, Dr. Bloniens office has been very open with offering a limited credit account, which I have been very grateful for, as I was allowed to make payments in a reasonable time period on my balance. All in all a wonderful (and growing) veterinarians office. I highly recommend Dr. Charles Blonien for all of your herp needs. I've had several Ball Pythons examined and treated, one RedTail Boa that was unfortunately and not in my care eaten half to death by a prey item (rat), and several other species that were treated correctly and thusly survived due to excellent professional diagnosis by Dr. Blonien as well as my own amateur care at home as advised by the doctor. Great finds tbz. You beat me to it! I'm having this problem again with my cham in one eye, just not as severe. Vet tomorrow.

Inferno

I took a quick look at Chameleons On-Line, and didn't see that they were dealers, much less had a guarantee. It may be there, but I didn't see it. While all efforts you may make to help the chameleons are well and good if you can afford it, sometimes some things have to go back to whoever sold it, or at least a refund may be in order. If it was an adoption, then I guess you got what you paid for, but that is pure speculation by me as to how you acquired it. I am not one that believes that chameleons must be saved at all costs, as we all have budgets, and many have learened that you can throw $200 at a chameleon that will die, or just have a chameleon that will die. Good luck with all.
