Fading...

So this is a photo I took of my friend Simon's sambava named Gizmo. This photo was taken last January. I was really impressed with his colors, both fired up and at rest.

Recently, Simon sent me some pics of gizmo that were shocking. His colors had faded, not just a little, but significantly. Here's one from about a month ago.

And here's another from a couple days ago, I could swear he's even lighter!

What is going on? I've been told that chams don't fade with age, but there is something going on with this cham for sure.

I'm new to panthers, so is this a slow shed process? Is it an illness? I'm confused. 7- 8 Months seems like along time to shed, but also a really short time to fade so quickly.

Ideas anyone?

One more old pic from january...

Light bulb swap

I've noticed some fading in my panther males before when their bulbs were getting old. I added a few mercury vapor bulbs on some cages, and new 10.0's on the others, and the results were pretty much across the board better colors. Might just be due for a bulb change, or not getting enough UV-B.

Thanks Tyler,

I remember noticing a color change in my veiled when I switched from my old bulb to an mvb. He definately brightened up.

This just seems so extreme.

That has happened to one of my males as well. I thought he might just be getting old, but I got him outside and he colored back up.

Get that guy some sunshine! I have most of my crew outside for about 4 months and they are always bursting with color after that.

Not sure about the weight.

He may be up for sale sometime soon. If anyone's interested PM me and I'll pass it on to Simon.
