I think it should be fine as long as the strands don't come out very easy and won't allow him to eat it then I think it will be fine just be sure to wash it down very good. It might be a little harder to keep clean to. It looks good though. Do mind taking a pic of your entire cage?

its on there pretty good i was just wondering if any one has put fake grass in theres and here is one with it in

when i first set up my cham homes i had this sitting inside the cages and i found crickets like to hide under it,then die under there so for me it looks good but didnt work to well..i got mine at a dolar store..they are now in a rubermaid cont with a bunch of other stuff i dont use lol..:)

thats were i got my grass to lol the doller store i just thought i would give it a try for a bit they were a doller each for a 1'x1' piece so i figure it worth the try :D

I bet you can tell how long you have kept reptiles by the number of container's you have with crap you don't use! We don't want to talk about how many I have. maybe we should have a post of stuff we want (or can bear to) to give away. Pay the postage and it's yours. What do you think? I did that to a couple friends and got rid of stuff. When someone on the forum has needed any of my old items, they are on the way. Even sent one forum member a extra laptop recently. Now if I could just keep doing this.

Bump.

Can you give us an update on the fake grass? I would like to add fake grass to my enclosure.

If its astroturf - my opinion is get rid of it.

I tried using it for about 4 months when I took the substrate out of my chams cage and I thought the fake grass would be nice. However, it is impossible to keep clean and water free, the stagnant water builds up in it no matter how often you drain and within a week the whole lot smells like its starting to rot. Feeder insects can die and be hidden in there as well until they too start to smell.

I prefer absolutely nothing on the bottom of my cages.

After thinking of it I agree no grass would be much easier to maintain.

I just ordered abs black sheets. I hate white it looks nasty and you can't ever get it stain free

Try pet turf, I special ordered some from home depot. Works great and drains well.

I may have Try it. How much did you have to order?

Feel like sharing any extra? I would cover the cost plus shipping of course.

You can only order in 5ft sections from Home Depot, mine was 18 inches by 60 inches and only cost $35 bucks. Sorry don't have any extra to share, I have already cut mine up and have plans to use it in my next cage.

Guys, I seriously don't recommend the stuff.

It looks lovely like it does when you first put it down in the photo above, but believe me, within a couple of weeks it is filthy and stinking, despite you doing everything that you can to keep it clean.

I would think that all really depends on ones husbandry routine, I personally call my whole Sundays pet day. Wash the dog, change the fish tank water, clean and feed the snake, clean the lizard cage, clean the roaches, crickets and worm bins then beg for sex from the wife. Day done.

My husbandry routine is brushing OCD - I spend at least an hour a day keeping both my chameleon enclosures clean, I am bordering on obsessive.

But I can tell you now.... if you seriously think that you can keep sheets of fake grass clean of stagnant water, poop, and dead insects every day and still keep the environment in a viv absolutely pristine, then you are sorely mistaken.

In order to do this, you actually have to take the entire fake grass sheets out at least twice a week, clean them, disinfect them and then put them back in, otherwise you end up with a bacteria soup that can make your chameleon ill.

I actually did this, as in take everything out and disinfect it twice a week, fpr over three months, until I decided that it was far too much of a pain in the ***, just to have a nice "grassy" base in my cage, so I binned it and I honestly have never looked back since.
