fake vs. real

what is your opinion on fake versus real plants? i have had a few people tell me that they love using fake plants for their chams, but i don't know if i like the idea or not. i still consider myself a rather new chameleon parent (my first was given to me july '08). i love real plants, but i would like to know what the general consensus is on the subject.

How much humidity do you have in your cage? Is it hard to keep it up? If so a real plant will help.

I use both real and fake. I buy this plastic plant/vine sorta thing for turtle tanks sold at Petsmart or Petco. I hang it form the sides of the cage to give the guys some privacy and to keep them from climbing on the screen. I then use Pothos and or ficus trees.

My Veileds only have the fake plastic stuff on the walls and a single pothos for each cage. The vines of the pothos provide good climbing and cover for them. My one veiled sleeps on a jungle vine that is well covered with pothos leafs... it like a blanket haha.

I myself use a mixture of both real and fake. Not sure if you know, but make sure you use non toxic plants.

Both is always better because it adds more density + if you have a plant eating cham like a veiled it will help. Also humidity will be better with real plants.

Good point! Not all plants are safe for chameleons.

I use both.
If your chameleon tends to eat plant materials, be cautious of fake plants that it might bite through and swallow, and be cautious to only use safe live plants.

I use both, fake vines, a couple fake leafy vine things, pothos, ficus, and now I'm trying to fit a hibiscus in the middle of all this! Hahaha.

i am using a mix of real and fake. i like the real plants, but they don't always work as well in some situations as the fake ones do.
i do know about the safe and not safe plants, i always take a list of safe plants with me when i'm buying new ones.

Sorry, since plastic filter UVB, all plastic chameleons have MBD... You just can't help it.

oopss correction: not a flash drive. Just plug in to usb, it will roll its eyes and start shooting its tongue
