I bought my new chameleon 'Merlin' home today, He has given me so much fun, He is 3 1/2 months old and very tame.

Each time he walks on to my hand, He starts really slowly and the speeds up as he gets near my shoulder and then climbs on my hair and sits on my head........Brilliant.......:D:D:D:D

A chameleon isn't a stuffed animal !

I think what Eisen is trying to say is, it may seem tame in your eyes, but with a level of inexperience comes the inability to spot stress in your new chameleon.

They are usually flighty at that age, and if he is moving fast and crawling to your head, they are usually trying to break eye contact and reach the highest point possible, be it your head, a tree, the top of a brontosaurus, whatever. Not exactly "tamed" behaviour, but more of a reaction to the enviroment.

Let your chameleon get a little acclimated before handling him, and take the time to research what might be displayed stress behaviors by the chameleon.

On the other side of the coin, a little handling won't kill the sucker, and sometimes necessary to move them, examine them, or clean their enclosures. Have fun with the new addition!

Glad you got the little fella! Bet you were up nice and early this morning?! They are totally fascinating aren't they?! Give him a few days to settle in and establish his routine. As you found out, they can run like the clappers when they are scared! Amy is getting used to me and I've had her for 5 weeks now. It takes them a while to learn that you are not going to eat them, and for them to be able to trust you. The first few times I held Amy she would just freak out and run, and once she ran straight off my hand and went splat on the floor! Luckily I'm not very tall and she landed on thick carpet so she was ok, but please bear this in mind - they are so light and so fast! They just seem so fragile at that age - like little puffs of wind, lol! Good luck with your new little baby!
