Feeder cricket news flash.......

Been using Ghann's cricks for some time now, filling in with breeding my own.

Ghann's has officaly switched from gryllus assimilis (Jamaican field cricket) to gryllodes sigillatus (banded cricket).

These banded cricks are great, much better to work with then the JF cricks.

They look way different, with pronounced brown bands around them.

The good thing about these, asside from the fact that they are not prone to the deadly crick virus, is that they are much less aggessive to your cham, more active, little die off problem, and they smell better! :p

I think I will start breeding these little guys.
In the short time I have worked with them, they seem to make less noise then the JF crick.

I am very happy with Ghann's decission to switch to this species :)

I recommend them to ppl who HATE dealing with cricks ;)

They are a nice cricket species. They dont get as big as the others and are a little jumpy but the chameleons do like that. Most reptile shops do both over here in the uk.

I like the Jamaica crickets better too.

On a side not, if you're planning on breeding feeder insects, I'd move to breeding B. Dubia Roaches instead. They breed quicker, require less work & effort, do not smell at all, make zero noise, and are all around healthier for you critters with a higher meat:shell ratio. Just my $0.02 ;)

I do breed dubia, they really r easy.
Just recently started breeding cricks.
Weird thing is, I never have medium size roach nymphs. They are all either too big or small!!??
Only Noogie will eat a adult roach, Smeagie just stairs at it, then looks at me like; your kidding....right??

Cant get dubias in FL i get my cricks from mulberryfarm.com last large ones i had were very noisy but were too big for my cham so been getting smaller ones that arent mature enough to make noise. I do need to look into some legal roaches in FL tho. Anybody know a website that sells roaches in FL?

Really? I am not being sarcastic or anything negative, but can't you just put a container outside & gleam waterbugs?
They aren't dubias, but they are (I can hardy type this) huge, mother-humping roaches!
Am going somewhere to die after this post!

I got these banded crickets a few months back at a local pet store. I liked them much better than the black ones!

AS a "field observation" the banded crickets all gather at the top screen of the cages, vs the house crickets gathering at the bottom.
