Wondering what l of you guys are feeding your colonies? Just doing fruits and veggies And a guise mixture? Heard that dog food is too high in protein? Input would be greatly Appreciated

Dubia chow

I make a mixture from chicken laying mash honey nut cheerios bran flakes. I tried the bug burger but they didn't seem too interested. I offer some fruit and vegies. I have about 700 to 800 in my colony. Avoid high protein. There are some good receipes floating around. Google it.

I give mine a dry gut that I make myself....I throw a lot of stuff in it...millet,coconut,almonds,bee pollen, flax, baby puffs, Weetabix, cheerios, other stuff I cant remember lol.

I only give them fruits and veggies once a week. (I don't leave it in there all week lol, just two days). The bin that just holds my feeders gets fruit and veg everyday plus the dry. But for my breeder bin its just the dry and fruit once a week. Oranges tend to make them frisky lol

I offer mine cricket crack.... But they're kinda, 'meh' on that. They'll tear up some oranges (that's the Barry White music in terms of food for dubias) and red bell pepper. My dubia nymphs loveeeeee some sweet taters now.

Sad thing is some websites say to 'gut load' feeders with dog food.... Even some of the books on how to care for chameleons say it.

Feed em what you would eat, as long as it's on the safe side or used in moderation.

Meat

I thought that the meat is bad for the chameleons due to it creating some type of acid build up and that's why you shouldn't do cat food. Is that right?

while we are kind of on the end of this conversation/topic, how often should dubais be fed to chameleons? I have a nice gutload recipe I got offline, but if I could my chams like 1 Dubai a day that would be great I think for the variety.

great topic, I hope some of the answers helped.
