hello everyone"

could a cham, for example, be feed on saturday moorning, left with food on cup, and then feeded again sunday night?
can it be regular or it will interfere with cham diet habits?
thank you!

i know its kinda a silly question, but i need to know it because im a student and ill have to travel home most weekends, thats why i ask if with the food/water avaiable its possible to left the cage unateded for that amout of time

Not really sure what you mean like going a full week ? Or Saturday morning giving him food and returning the next day and feeding at night which is not recomended because when the lights go out they don't hunt and any feeders left in the cage will chew on your little man and possibly infect him

It would depend how young? But yeah you could feed sat morning, maybe miss Sunday night as it's too late and feed as normal Monday.
How will you be providing water?
Kath.

yes i was thinking in going on saturday moorning and returning sunday afternoon/night

the insects i was planing to leave on the terrarium "free" would be dubias and worms, no crickets. and when i say "free" i say in theyr plastic container so they wouldnt escape.

other question would be if a young cham, could be able to feed himself alone since i wouldnt be there sunday moorning.

for temperature im chosing a thermostat to control it (still need some references) and for water, a driping system controled by a timer ( ill have a large resorvoir enough for 2/3 days)

so if i leave dubias and mealworms on theyr container, over a day, my cham will be able to feed himself? i should estimulate that behavior since start then?

in terms of age, how developed should it be so it can have no problem?
can anybody help?
thank you

If your Cham can get enough water, I would just leave as much food as much he eats one day and would skip Sunday as Kath said.

It would depend on which species you get - I don't own a veiled but from reading they tend to mature a bit quicker and aren't as picky on humidity as say a Jackson or a panther- I would think you wouldn't have any trouble over 6 months and would doubt that you would even at 4 or 5 -with a veiled. If you have it on a timer for lights and he has access to water - a six month old panther would be fine with a good system for misting - I'm sure that I'm being overly careful - I spent the summer with attempting to spend some weekends away from home and found that I had to come back because my timer broke on my monsoon and had other problems - lucky for me we were at my mother's lake house and it's only 20 min away. I was dealing with a baby Jackson - cheap timers and a heat wave- once I had all the timer set and got a aquazamp misting system all was good (and the summer was over)

I am a university student and have had to go home on weekends. I just try to have him fed a good meal on the friday and give him a good misting before I leave. It's important for them to at least have a water source while you are gone (not a still water dish). I also have only gone home once this year but chams can go a few days without eating, specifically my kinyongia.

Yes, you could easily free range your feeders, that is- just leave about 8-10 crickets in the cage to roam around as they will; which is what i and many other keepers do in here. You just have to make sure that the crickets ( i assume your using crickets) have something to eat, i.e some veggies/fruit/etc in the cage, or they'll nibble on your cham at night.

Plus remember chams don't necessarily eat every single day, unless they're young and are going through a growth spurt.

You can add variety by feeding other things while you're there, but when your not there crickets are the best thing to just leave in the cage, as they don't hide like other feeders do.

ok! thank you!!

to water issues im constructing a raining system and will have it with a timer so it will go on every 2 hours or so, in the day. ill get a larger reservoir for weekends and i think it will be enough to keep the humidity, but i will test it first.

Since it's a Veiled, and others may not like this, but Veiled's are adapted to going quite some time without drinking actual water.

I had a Veiled previously and can count on one hand the amount of times i saw him actually drink actual water. He seemed to prefer meeting his water needs via eating fruits/veggies/plants as they do in the wild when water is scarce.

If you mist your Veiled really well before you leave, and make sure you leave them fruits/veggies - i.e Blueberries, Sliced Bell pepper, etc in the enclosure they should be fine for a few days without actual water and misting.
