feeding with dubia roaches

Hello,
I'm a new pet owner. I have two veiled cham's one male, one female, each about 4-5 inch bodies. I've been doing some research and believe that the dubia roaches are going to be my main feed of choice. I have many questions, but my first, can I just put half dozen roaches into their enclosure and let them eat as they feel the need? Or try to feed them individual roaches with tongs? neither have been tong feed before.I have a bark substrate, lots of fake plants and misters for each enclosure.

I would put the roaches in a cup to feed to your cham. If you put them in the cage and let them free range they will just crawl under something and never come out. I would also get rid of the bark substrate because your chams could accidentally eat it and die.

I've read different views on this subject. My opinion is that no substrate at all would be the way to go. Easier clean up, less chance of mold and bacteria. Other than aesthetics, is there a need for substrate at all?

No there so no need for it. You could just put down paper towel down for cleaning purposes.

Sweetdad,

Welcome to the forums. You've found an amazing group of folks with sage advice. I noticed in your post that you're going to give dubia a shot. If you haven't already, obtain a small quantity of dubia first and try them with your chams. While dubia are a great feeder, your chams may not accept them. As mentioned above, you'll want to cup feed the roaches. If your little guys will hand feed, try wiggling a roach loosely between your pointer finger and thumb. Hopefully, your guys will strike. Lots of info on dubias here as well as google and youtube. Please let us know how it goes.

Are the plastic containers for collecting water from drippers or for feeders? If for feeders you may want to get something for up higher in the enclosure. Also, it looks like your basking light is not pointed at an actual perch, but it could be the angle of the shot.

The container are for catching drips from the mister. The basking light is a bit off of directly overhead.
