Female Chameleon is digging holes

I have a female veiled chameleon that is digging holes at bottom of her tank I have had her checked for eggs by a reptile vet and he says she is not carrying any eggs any ideas why she is digging? She is healthy looking and has a good grip on the branches etc.....even the vet says she's doing great. Her appetite is down but she is interested in butterworms opposed to crickets.

Well that is weird that the vet said no eggs when they dig im pretty sure they're getting ready to lay. Just dont interrupt her and check the holes.

The vet we take her to is a reptile vet and has been very helpful.
She is about 6 months old..
She has never been mated.
If in fact she lays eggs what should I do with the eggs.
How old are they before they start laying eggs?
Thank you for your quick replies.

She is old enough to lay eggs....and they can lay eggs even when they haven't been mated.

I always provide a suitable place in the cage for a female to dig to lay eggs from the time she is sexually mature. If you do this you won't have to look for the sometimes subtle indications that she is ready to lay eggs. If she doesn't hava a suitable place to lay the eggs she will quite likely die eggbound.

If she lays eggs and she hasn't been mated, they will, of course be infertile. I would dig them up. This way you will know that she did lay them and how many she laid. If she lays too many you can cut back on her diet, etc. to help the next clutch smaller.
