Female Veiled never laid eggs

My husband and I owned a female Veiled Chameleon for about four years, and in the entire time we had her, she NEVER laid eggs. Seriously. We took her to the vet and she couldn't find a single thing wrong with her. She had an appropriate place to lay her eggs, which she never took advantage of.

I was wondering what could possibly cause something like this...was she born sterile or something or is it just a bizzarre anomily?

When she passed away, it was after a long battle with some sort of a resperatory infection that we couldn't seem to get rid of, and not egg binding or anything having to do with it....it's always confused me!

Same here, but I bred her when she was 3 years old, and produced me 38 babies. She died from old age when she was 5.

I have had many veiled females that have never produced a single egg. IMHO it has to do with diet and to some degree, temperature that you keep them at. Most of my veiled females live to be over 6 years old. I can breed these same females and get fertile clutches too.

What is your basking temp and how much did you feed her each day or every other day?

Her basking temp was 88 to 90 F. And she had maybe 10-12 large gutloaded crickets every day or every other. She was pretty healthy until the end...at least I think she was!

Mysterious!

If you look on Brad's site, he can tell you how to do that. It is actually recommended for the female for her to live a longer life. His site is raisingmisskitty.com, i believe. It has to do with temps and food intake. If you keep them just below minimum, they do not produce eggs because they don't have what they perceive to be what they need in order to produce and lay the eggs. Not a bad thing if you want the female to live longer and have her as a pet. I have a w/c female that is probably only 5-6 mos old. I am doing the same thing to make sure she doesn't produce eggs until she get older and can handle it better.

Debby...the information on Brad's blog is the information I wrote for him.
Kat77...there is nothing mysterious about it.

Sorry about that Kinyonga. I was in a hurry, had to rush my tortoise to the vets today, she has a uri. I probably didn't read everything correctly. Youre right, no big mystery.

Well I find it mysterious LOL! Tilly layed again yesterday 72 eggs OMG! I have not been feeding her as much (the equivelent of maybe 4 crickets per day with one day per week with no food) Hmmm maybe I need to reduce the temp in there too. She was not nearly so exhausted after laying this time tho'. After a few experimental digs in places she wasnt suposed to dig she finally found the right spot.... dug all one day, slept in the hole then continued to dig then lay the next morning. She filled the hole in and climbd right back up to her basking site ^__^

The amount of eggs she lays is really worrying tho!
