Female veiled or male panther?

Hi everyone! I am getting a new chameleon this month and I am torn between a female veiled or a male panther! I have had a female veiled chameleon before, so I already know how to take care of them, and I have done months of research on panthers! I know that panthers are very friendly and they are absolutely gorgeous! I really like the nice green color and the calm nature of the female veileds though! One con I'm deffinately weighing is the enclosure size! I was going to build a 24x24x48 screen cage for the panther or a 18x20x36 for the veiled! Also, I'm not 100% sure if the panther will be a male, and if it is, what it's colors will be like! Are there any tie breakers you guys could give me? Thanks :)

Males are more colorful, but females tend to be a little temperamental (sometimes) but veilds also can be aggressive and mean by nature so good luck! lol Id get a panther, they tend to be way more friendly. what are the age of the chameleons you are getting? i just got an 18x18x36 for my baby panther (3 month old) and he loves the extra room

By rule, an adult veil requires a larger cage than a panther. Adult veil should have a minimum 24"x24"x48" cage. Adult panther should have a 18"x18"x36" cage minimum. Panthers are a lot hardier nowadays thru captive breeding. Make sure to select a good breeder for a veil, as they require some good dna and raising to avoid MBD. My choice: Ambilobe all the way! :D

I'm getting him as a baby! Probably 2 months or so!

Ok, thank you! Is it ok for a female veiled to have a 18x20x36? I read that the 24x24x48 was for the males! And I have decided to get a panther this month and a female veiled in a couple months! :)

A female veil can survive in a 18"x18"x36" cage, but won't necessarily be happiest. Veils are pretty active and do explore a lot more than panthers. You have to remember, with a female you will need a laying bin, taking up to 16-18" of cage height.

First off, any chameleon can be "aggressive", whether it's Veiled or Panther, male or female. Each individual chameleon has it's own unique personality. Unfortunately, Veiled are often stereotyped as mean (technically defensive), and I'm sure this is true of some, but not every single one. For example, my male Veiled is sweet and very docile. You could get a panther, hoping it will be friendly, but it won't necessary be so. You really never know. I recommend that you choose the chameleon that you like to look at best, that way, if the chameleon never tolerates handling or socialization (which for any chameleon is very likely), you still can enjoy watching it. If you like the look of a panther, then go for that one. If you like a veiled, go with that.
Personally, I would go with the larger size cage for whatever chameleon you decide on. In the wild, their cage is unlimited, so why limit the cage size depending on the species or gender? Good luck with whatever you chose. You might want to take a look at our site sponsors and buy chameleon from one of them.

A lot of people say that panther babies usually die
