Fertile Vs. Infertile eggs

OK-It seems that I can almost tell when eggs are infertile. BUT-I hate to think that I am throwing away anything that "might" be good, so I incubate until moldy. Infertile eggs seem oblong and "squishy", where fertile eggs are egg shaped and firm/calcified. Does anyone else think they can tell that eggs are no good, or are there lots of stories where people thought they were not good but ended up hatching things?

I don't toss anything unless it is moldy and flat when the rest are all white, plump and looking good!

I have heard and read that you can tell infertile eggs from fertile by the color they have. Fertile eggs have a pink rosy glow because of the tiny blood veins forming and infertile eggs have a more yellowy look to them. I also would not toss anything until it deflated and molded. Healthy eggs stay healthy and I haven't heard of the mold spreading to good eggs.

Juli, i have a clutch of ambi eggs that i was pretty confident they were bad eggs. It was the females 2nd retained clutch and they were quite the oblong yellowing tic tacs that we all call "infertile eggs". Going on two months now and they have actually gotten whiter from what i can tell, and they have plumped up quite nicely. Ive actually had females lay eggs that looked beautiful and fertile but ended up molding and all went bad. Eggs will throw you for a loop, but what in chameleons doesnt? Right? :p

kenya, actually the pinkish glow doesnt show up until the eggs begin (or have broken) to break diapause, but i am speaking from experience with veileds and panther eggs only, as they're the only species i have worked with. And as for mold spreading to good eggs, i have some interesting pictures that i will post tomorrow. A picture mold spreading on top of "good" eggs. This is on a clutch i recieved from john and cyndi and the eggs are over 1.5 years old but are still plump, round, and beautifly white. Its hard for me to decribe what they look like, but ill throw some photos on here.

Great thread juli
