Finally received good T. montium eggs...

I finally received some great looking T. montium eggs today from one of my females. I also have about 25 eggs that were extracted, but I don't have high hopes for those.

Regardless, my excitement was tempered by something a very experienced cham breeder recently told me when picked-up 2.2 montiums from me. He said the montium babies are extraordinarily difficult to rear past about six weeks. The toughest he had experienced.

Has anyone else experienced/attempted raising baby monitums?

Yes, with no issues I can remember. I kept them same as quad babies.

I hatched and raised montium hatchlings two seperate times and did not run into issues. Did your customer indicate what was happening at six weeks?

I kept them cool, humid, and with a generous misting schedule. That seemed to make them happy.
Congratulations on the eggs. I look forward to seeing these guys represented again!

I've bred them a few times. Never really found the babies to be very difficult. They did quite well for me raised in 12x12x18" Exo Terra Glass Terrariums. I appreciate the encouraging replies Mike, DeremensisBlue, jvo, and Chris...I admit I am feeling much better about them now. Perhaps it was just one man's experience.

I believe I'll give the exo-terra terrarium method a try if they hatch. I've been meaning to try glass-sided enclosures for baby chams but haven't gotten around to it. I imagine it's much easier to maintain higher humidity, although I do wonder if the fruit flies just wander right out through the door cracks.

If you go on Dendroboard, there are a few threads where they talk about using silicone on the edges of the doors. I can't remember what they called it. Basically, they ran a line of aquarium silicone down the edge of the door, let it dry and cut it along the edge. They also talk about putting noseeum screen on the top and front vent to keep the fruit flies in.
I haven't done it myself, but it looked like it would work.
