First Chameleon and Habitat build Log

Hello everyone!

I just signed up for an account and I thought I would start by introducing myself and starting this thread so that I Can keep a log going of my buildup of its habitat.

I just purchased a ZooMed Reptibreeze 24x24x48 enclosure and I will need to build a custom stand to accommodate the drain I plan to install.

In a few weeks the reptile super show comes to town and I am going and planning to get a panther chameleon and a mist king. I was going to wait on getting the cage there too but I wanted to get it set up before I got the animal home so its a smooth transition.

I dont have any pictures now but I will update this tread as time goes on to keep it relevant to this section.

As of now here some details of what I plan to do

Zoomed reptibreeze 24x24x48
Zoomed Reptisun 5.0 Tube or CFL (Since I already have the CFL Hood)
Incandescent light for basking
Possibly LED Grow light for full spectrum light for plants
Mistking basic setup

The custom stand will have a door to house the mistking water supply and pump as well as the drain bucked and misc supplies.

Welcome to the forum. :) Glad you're doing your research, it will make it a lot easier to get the conditions correct. The mistking is a great system, you won't be sorry you went with it.

I've only been to a few reptile shows, they didn't have a whole lot of chameleons at them. Probably because they don't handle the stress very well. If you don't find what you're looking for at the show, there are some really good chameleon breeders online. Good luck! :)

FYI: You won't be able to edit that post in the future, there's a set time limit on how long you're able to edit a post on this site.

Well thats unfortunate about the edit timeline... Oh well I will keep this thread updated.

What are some of the good online breeders to check out? I would like to get an idea on price before I go to the show so I know what to expect.

Look at the sight sponsors here. I have a 5 month old Kammerflage Kreation's Ambanja Panther now. I have also had one from Paradise Chameleons. There are several good breeders that are site sponsors. Look up the thread "Calling all Krammer babies" and you'll see their offspring.

Welcome and good luck!

Like PeachyPink said, the sponsors are a great place to start. Also, some of the members on this site sometimes have babies for sale in the market section. Depending on the type of chameleon and the desirability of the line, the price can vary. I haven't been looking lately, so I'm not sure what the current market is.

If I were you, I would definitely start out with a male (at least 3 months old). Females are sweet and nice, but they lay eggs whether bred or not, and it can lead to issues. Females are usually cheaper. Do a search for pictures that show how to sex them, so you know what you're getting if you purchase at the show.

Look what the UPS and Amazon prime brought me today! All set up and a sneak peak of the corner it will be going in.

Now that I have the cage I can start work on designing the stand!

Update time!

Got the stamd made and placed. now I just need stain or paint it and the work on the drainage.

I will be getting some decore and plants set up in the next couple of days and get the basking temps correct.

On to the pictures!

can i suggest a 24'' reptisun led uvb from zoomed it's a beautiful product it provide uvb and the led lights are good with plants.
i also suggest the hydroflow base for reptibreeze its good to drain the mist.

I was thinking about that. I would still need an additional basking light for the heat but I think that with the height of the cage this might be a good idea.

I was looking around for this tray and I can not seem to find a link to buy one. Is there a place?

First i want to say that i'm not associated and i don't sell these items.
then i buy the hydroflow from here http://www.chameleonworldmuji.co.uk/home/enclosures/
It's a unique product it fit all reptibreeze cages.it's the best that you can find. i search a lot before to find this...

i have your same setup and my chams loves it!for the heat i use the deepdome
and a 160w heat+uvb light. it provide the right uvb i check with one uvb meter for mobile phone that i buy on amazon (very cheap compared to zoomed uvb meter but very useful and works well).
(search for Smart UV Checker Ultraviolet Rays)
can i ask what do you use to fix the Epipremnum aureum?

All i did was use 4 long bamboo plant stakes that i cut to the correct length. I just jammed thrm through the bottom of the pot. once i get some vines inside it should be super stable.

What is the name of that plant with red in it? I like how it adds a bit of colour to the environment.

I had one of those. Mine didn't do too well at the bottom of the cage. Not sure if it was too much water, not enough to light or a combination of both... they do look really nice though.

Alright all! Tomorrows the big day!

Got all my vines and branches put in and secured, covered all the live plants soil with rocks.

What do you guys think of the decor? I wanted it to look as natural as possible. I really like the contrast of the vines and branches I collected.

Now tomorrows project will be getting the chameleon home, getting the lighting put up and my misting system setup and programmed.

Fingers crossed i come back from the reptile show with lots of loot!

Back from the reptile show... with a much lighter wallet to boot.

1 kammerflage chameleon
1 mist king starter set with corners and extra nozzle
1 dome light and 24" uvb light*
250 1/4" crickets
And some egg crates

I impulse bought the 24" zilla light and now there is not a lot of light Illuminating the enclosure.

Do you guys think that the uvb led from zoo med with rhetoric zilla would be too much uvb?

Thanks
