Ok, so I watched this video about breeding super worms:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ex-jbQtClPM&feature=related
It seemed like it was easy. So I figured I'd give it a go. My beardie loves supers and I am getting a Veiled Cham in June (thanx Jann!
). I know the veiled chameleon will be a baby, so he wont be able to eat supers for a while.
Anyways, here is my setup so far and my step by step plan.
Step 1- Pupae
I'm worried about the worms suffocating. Do you think that's an issue?
Step 2- Breeding
I'm going to do this just like the guy in the video did. I'm going to keep the beetles in the bottom drawer. Only, i read that it's not a good idea to keep the beetles in the drawer for more than 2-4 weeks, because they will eat the eggs. So, every 3 weeks i'm going to replace the drawer with the eggs, with one that has no eggs. And i will put the drawer with eggs in the second slot.
Step 4- Nursery
Once the eggs hatch i will move them to the top drawer where they can grow. As for the bedding, the guy in the video used straight up oats as seen in this picture:
I read though, that using oats that haven't been crashed is a bad idea.
what do you guys think? Crushed or no crush?
Step 5- Feed and Repeat!
Once they are feeder size i will use some of them for breeding, and the rest will become feeders.
This is my first time ever trying something like this. I have a feeling timing is going to get messed up and i may end up accidentally feeding the beetles eggs.
If you guys have any experience, or suggestions, let me know.
