have a 2 month almost 3 month old nosey be and i want to know what size crickets to get and also what other type of insects and sizes to get along with when i should be increasing the size of the insect.

i think when i got mine around that age i was using 3/8ths crickets. so far i've only been feeding crickets and super worms and the occasional grasshopper (too cold to find them now though) so i cant help much with the other insects. silkworms and hornworms are some of the better worms to get though if you are interested.

choose crickets that are no wider than the space between your chameleon's eyes. Another rule of thumb is to choose prey that is no longer than half the body length of the chameleon. (because chameleons grow at different rates, just stating the ages of your chameleons doesnt really allow us to specify the size of cricket for you)

In addition to crickets, Other good choices are small butterworms, small terrestrial isopods, small silkworms (can be slightly wider than the space between chameleons eyes as they are very soft squishy), the occassional small superworm, small roaches, small indian walking stick phasmids, small moths, etc. Fruit flies are probably still useful too, for another month or so until the chameleons "outgrow" them.

one more question not food related but when i bought cell the breeder sold me on a substrate that kinda looks like small wood chips after reading some info on the site i'm seeing that that is not a good idea and want to know if there is anything i can use besides paper towels or newspaper to give it a more constant look having the plants and branches and stuff i dun really like the look of paper towels or newspaper on the bottom however if nothing else will do for his health i will of course use paper towels or newspaper.

you can get some critter carpet i suppose? i dont use any substrate at all though.

carpet turf stuff that you can get at lowes or home depot. looks cool, easy to clean, and great for drainage just like critter carper kinda, but cheaper.

you can also use shelf liner. If you get the carpet try not to get one with loops so their toes do not get stuck in it.

Thanks everyone this is a lot of help i have a bearded dragon but am new to chameleons i know they are a lot of work and did a ton of research before getting one, but once hes here i'm realizing there's a lot of little things i didn't know just want to make sure he gets the best chance possible.
