Force Feeding Now

I have had an ongoing problem with my veiled for a month now. He wasnt eating for like 2 weeks, so i put him on a liquid diet. every morning i was giving him 3 ML of calcium, minerals, and vitamins. i did this for about a week praying that this would be enough. he ate one supper earlier last week. so the past 3 days i have been putting him outside in a fake tree. just maybe some natural sunlight may help. this didnt work either. so today i pulled him out of his cage, and like always he had his mouth open and was hissing. so i tossed a 2 suppers and a cricket in his mouth. i did see him chew and swallow them. maybe this will induce some hunger. anyone ever try this?

Yours must have been gaping big time for you to be able to get 2 superworms and a cricket in there!

We were told by our vet that force feeding, when necessary, can induce an appetite. We tried it (using silkworms) on an "at risk" male veiled who was on medication which had caused anorexia. It took 3 days, 3 force feedings, but it worked.

I'm not saying it's the greatest thing, or the answer to everything, but our vet recommended it and it worked.

JustinIgor, I've done it also and it worked for me. I'd give him about four feeders a day, everything from grasshoppers to hornworms and roaches. Have you had a fecal done recently? Good luck and keep us posted

Yea all the lizard lights turned on this morning and it woke me up, so about 5 mins. later i heard a smack..crunch....crunch from his cage so he ate something. no fecal yet. he hasnt lost much weight at all and he is very strong still.

You might consider getting a fecal. Sometimes a slow down in feeding is the first evidence of parasites. My vet only charges 15 bucks for a fecal. It's good info to know. Good luck and keep us posted. David

I second Dectr6's suggestion, just to be safe.

good to hear that he hasn't lost weight. do you weigh him?
That would be better than guessing by looking at his body.
keep updating us, Justin.
