Frustrating Ant Problem

Ants were attracted to a dead cricket in my cage, so I washed the whole cage out and such, but they were still there.
So I inspected the cage and found small holes apart of the cage connecting to the hollow bars. I suspect that the ants stay in the hollow bars around the cage?
I was gonna try ant spray on the cage and then wash it, but am afraid it will still linger and be toxic to my veiled. What should I do?
I might try putting the entire cage underwater and drown the ants.
Suggestions?

tthe cage underwater sounds like your best bet and very safe just water and it qwill do the trick most definitely!

most ants can live under water for a long time i suggest a new tub. i have herd of ants living as long as 14 days under water cause if it rains it floods there caverns so they adapted from what i herd. do you know what type of ant it is that would help in deciding of a way to get rid of them

Just normal black ants.
And I just sprayed raid around my dresser where I keep the cage. And taped over the little holes on the cage.

Ants are nearly impoosible to stop. I've yet to find a practical solution that is effective and safe for chameleons. I don't have problems with them in my chameleons cages but my feeders get attacked by them in the room I keep them in. I've found that placing the legs of the rack I use in cups of Windex works, but that sh!t gets old. Don't even bother to try this with water; they will just create an artificial 'ant bridge' from the drowned bodies and simply march on.

I had the same problem a few weeks ago with the black ants. I tried everything and nothing worked, so I ended up using ant killer from Walmart. I just sprayed the bottom of the cage stand, all the way around and have not seen one ant since. My chameleon is still happy as can be so I think it will be fine.

from what i just read if you want to be safe about it drown them in water with soap for a bout a week and they should die off cause the soap will wash the oil off of them if they move around after they are under but even if they dont a week should be long enough that they would be looking for higher ground and try to escape.

sorry missed that it is your chams cage and not the feeder cage.... that sucks. well any type of chemical ant killer almost never kills on contact. they do this so the ant gos back to the rest infects them and in theory wipes them all out... so i wouldn't use this on them or if the cham ingests an ant it could get sick or die. use a barrier of sticky pads and put some smelly food on the other side they should die off that way in time

Follow the trail of ants to determine where they come into the house.2Locate the holes.
Fill the holes with soap or white glue; orApply baby powder on the trail of ants. Ants that come in contact with the powder will die soon.3Apply more baby powder or red pepper to kill the remaining ants. After they are dead, sweep away the ants and excess powder or red pepper.

just google ways to kill ants look at the most humane natural way that wont harm your cham usualy home remedies is the safest IE: baby powder HOT water soapy water etc

Okay so I had this same problem when I had Stan's cage on the ground... Here's how you fix it... I will GUARANTEE this will fix it.

Pick these up

Set one about 2 inches away from the cage and one right at where their source is and wait about 3 days. These will clear it up I poromise... I had a MASSIVE ant problem at all my feeders buckets, cham cages everywhere and these work magic I promise

EDIT: though they are not all natural by putting outside of the cage it attracts them outside the cage and kills all of the source colony... There is no odor and the liquid SHOULD stay inside the trap... I had a cat and currently still have a free ranged rabbit and have had no issues...

i hate ants..and yes they can be bad to your cham..(they always go for the eyes of an animal..and will attack at night..hard as hell to get rid of..ive used following them to the den and stuffing it with poison, then cleaning everything, and using a small thin bead of vasoline along the botom edge underneath my stand..never had them again..

This stuff works great! I've used it before and it'll solve your ant problem very effectively.

this stuff contains borax and can kill your cham if it is ingested

Yes it can unfortunately but even more unfortunate is that honestly black ants/ red ants especially in summer are a much bigger problem and are a more immediate threat... If you place the traps far enough away from the cage like I said there is NO way it can harm your cham... Sometimes we have to impart tough love lol... I promise if your traps are 2-3 inches on the outside of your cage there really is not a very good chance of any side effects... Once ants collect a sample of food, they return to the colony and these trap act as a signal blocker for their senses.. It fills their whatever senses food and thats all they see, smell, eat... They then return immediately to the colony and spread the wealth so the traps will basically create a blockade between the ants and the cage
