I’m starting to see some fungus gnats in my chameleons inclosure. i guess i wanna know really anything anyone has to say about them. Are the dangerous for My girl Ivy or the plants? Anyone know some different options on how to get rid of them/ prevent them. Any plants that are less prone to them? Just any input at all would be nice:) thank you guys

Hi. Fungus gnats are harmless, but annoying as all get out. Since I have 5 chameleons and almost all are bioactive, I’ve had it pretty bad with the gnats…they were flying in my mouth at times! 😫🤢 I always have 2 Katchy’s running. Around this time of year I buy some mantis ooths to hatch out in my enclosures (the baby mantids eat the gnats). I used to have a couple of sundew plants (drosera capensis) until my cat killed them. Then I bought sticky pads and had them hanging all over. Finally I had to resort to Mosquito Bits, and that finally got rid of them. I was afraid it would kill my isopods and springtails, which is why I hesitated to use it in all of my enclosures. My clean up crew seems to be fine though. While Mosquito Bits are supposed to be pet safe, I still make sure to only put the treatment water in the soil and avoid the leaves.

The instructions are on the package. It instructed for me to put them in water. I put the granules in a little mesh bag and let it soak in my watering can overnight. Removed the mesh bag and watered the soil the next day. I believe you can sprinkle some directly on the soil too, but I didn’t want to risk my chameleons accidentally eating them.
