Gaping Jacksons mouth and brown color

Hey guys so I'm a new member and I just got a jacksons Cham about 6 days ago. I've done a ton of research and believe to be doing everything right, but he just sits in his basking spot with his mouth open and is almost all brown. But when he moves around or I pick him up he turns green and closes his mouth. Please help!!!!

What is your basking temp at?

jacksons dont like high temps, and will gape to expell heat.

The basking temp is currently 86.4F. I just bought a digital thermometer because I think my analog was off and it was too hot(I think it was and I adjusted the light. Now it's back down and he's still gaping.

86 is still too hot.

try to get your temps down to around 83.

Alright will do thank you!!! What about his brown coloration? Isn't that a sign of stress?

well if you just got him, hes stressed from the move.

Yes it'll be a week tomorrow that I've had him. How long does it usually take for them to get settled and not be so stressed?

varies cham to cham, but can be from a few days to a few weeks.

also, if there isnt enough foliage that can play a part in it too

You dont say how old he is, but Jacksons don't usually go completely green until about 5 - 6months.
