hi i am a BIGfan of chameleons and i was wondering if any one know how to get one in Australia i know there illegal but ive seen one before and i was wondering if any one knows any breeders down here (PLEASE HELP)

Several years ago we had a member from Australia. He loved his cham. I was good friends with him, we even talked on the phone once, until I got my phone bill. I talk too much!

All I can tell you is his cham cost an amazing amount of money, he could never take it to the vet, and it could never be where his kids friends could see it. I know be bought it black market, but that is about all I know. Sorry.

Do you run a zoo?

Chamaeleo calyptratus

Veiled Chameleon

Eligible non-commercial purpose only, excluding household pets.

Locked enclosures in high security facilities with 24 hour monitoring and movement detectors and access controlled by authorised persons.

Otherwise it seems you have to pay through the nose on the black market and risk confiscation at any moment.

Adult pair of panthers are around $3500, Veileds are around 2-300 for hatchlings, 500 for yearlings or 2000k for an adult breeding pair. Of course all on the black market from breeding stock that has been around prior to the exotic laws existing.

I live in California. Basically anything other then a cat or dog is illegal to own. That being said, I've owned numerous 'illegal' and hard to obtain species. It is all about who you know. Do some research, try and find a group or organization and wiggle your way in with them. That is my best advice, good luck! Don't be discouraged if this process takes numerous months.

australia has a fragile ecosystem if you may happen to obtain one, please do not release it in the wild and do not let it loose of its cage without supervision of all times, if you have to get rid of it put it down instead of letting it in the wild.
