Anybody know what the barb is on their rumps? When I clipped it off a bunch of clear liquid came out. My cham's been eating them for about a couple weeks without any issues.

haha, the barb is extremely soft.

It's just a defense mechanism. I've clipped a few myself but the barb isn't to worry about. Theres been cases of hornworms biting onto cham tongues, eyes, etc. Just be sure to clip their mandibles to be on the "extra" safe side.

What I usually do is grab the hornworms head and clip the mandibles (teeth). Try not to go too deep, just enough to clip the mandibles so they can't grab anything with them.

Other than that, hornworms are a great food source. They provide lots of water too if your cham is having a hard time drinking water :)

The horn is made of skin and is soft. I don't clip anything on them, but they can bite so of you are really cautious it's the mandibles you should worry about.
