Greens!?

I want to know how I can keep my greens/lettuce fresh as store bought. Is there any ways to keep them fresh for awhile in the fridge?

You can take the greens and put them in a bowl and take a damp paper towel and cover them with it. They will stay fresh and crisp. Keep the towel wet.

I hadn't thought of that! I keep wild rocket leaves in the packet they come in, but I'll give this a go and see if they last any longer! Thanks for the tip, Heather!:D

Greens.......

I always have collard greens and dandelion greens on hand. I trim the bottom when I get them home so that they can draw water better. I then put them in a small glass flower vase with some water. I put this in the fridge. They stand upright in the vase like flowers and draw water from their stems like they would in nature. At a minimum you have to remove greens from their plastic bag. The plastic causes them to spoil right away. I don't feed my feeder insects or iguanas lettuce but keep it for myself. I trim the tough stem so it can draw water better. I fill a small ziplock bag with a little water and put the stem part of the lettuce (I buy romaine only) into the bag. Then I stand the lettuce (in the baggie) in an appropriate sized container so that it stands upright. The lettuce draws up the water through it's stem and the lettuce leaves don't spoil. They receive proper air since they aren't trapped in a bag. This may sound silly but it works for all my greens :p

Sure, sure! :) My cousin gave me this tip for preserving left over salad a few years ago, it works really well.

I put my salad and greens for the critters in rubbermaid containers. This keeps them fresh enough for me to eat for up to 2 weeks. They keep longer than that but I don't usually eat anything that old. It's fine for the bugs though. I use these but the big round ones:

They make fancier ones too but I haven't tried those because what I have works just fine :)
