Chameleon Info:
  • Your Chameleon - Male Veiled Chameleon in our care for 11 months. He is 13 months old.
  • Handling - Very rarely. Only when he "asks" and sometimes during cage cleaning.
  • Feeding - We feed him mainly 10-15 crickets daily. He also receives wax worms and meal worms occasionally. The crickets are gut-loaded with "Cricket Crack", carrots, lettuce, and hydrated via Flukers Cricket Quencher.
  • Supplements - The feeders are dusted with ZooMed Repti-Calcium w/o D3 during every feeding and Rep-Cal Herptivite Multivitamins and RetptoCal w/D3 every other Sunday.
  • Watering - We use a DIY dripping system and reptile fogger during the day only. We also spray the enclosure 3 times daily for 5-10 minute intervals. We see him drink often.
  • Fecal Description - His last poop contained remains of a meal worm, indicating improper digestion and he was recently tested negative for parasites by the local vet.
  • History - Gumby has recently been to the vet due to some of his back spikes being removed during his latest shed. He was given anti-bacterial cream, which we applied as prescribed. This visit was 2 weeks ago.

Cage Info:
  • Cage Type - I hand-made his screen enclosure and it measures 26"X26"X50"
  • Lighting - We are using a 25W ExoTerra UVB 100 bulb, a 100W ExoTerra Basking Bulb, and a plant growth fluorescent T5 bulb w/ associated fixtures. All lighting is on an automatic timer which turns on at 0830 and off at 2030 (12 hrs)
  • Temperature - His basking spot is 89.4F, the middle is 80.9F, and the bottom is 77.5F. We measure the temperature with a digital thermometer as well as an Etekcity infrared thermometer.
  • Humidity - His humidity stays between 50-55% and is measured utilizing a digital hydrometer placed in the center of his enclosure.
  • Plants - His enclosure has an umbrella plant and codiaeum variegatum (both live).
  • Placement - The cage is located in our living room next to a window to provide natural sunlight during the day. The top of the cage is 6ft 9in from the floor.
  • Location - Italy

Current Problem - Gumby has not eaten anything in the last 6 days and seems to have a weak grip as he has fallen a few times in the last 2 days. He doesn't usually fall from more than 1-2 feet and the bottom of his cage is screen material. For the past 2 days, he is usually dark in color with his spots showing. A couple nights ago, he was active which is very unusual for him. Today, he slept on and off, which is also very unusual. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance. I will post pictures shortly.

is it possible that maybe he broke a limb from falling and thats what is making him fall, grumpy etc? Will you post pictures maybe he has MBD if he has weak grips on his branches. just a thought, I'm not an expert

This picture is from earlier today. I will take more in a moment and post them. There is no evidence to suggest he has broken any bones. I took him out of his cage yesterday while my wife cleaned his cage. He was walking fine in the lawn.

are his eyes as sunken as they appear to be in the picture? the picture shows that they are almost completely flat.

do you have any pictures of him with better lighting where his eyes aren't closed so I can get a better look?

His eyes do appear to be sunken in a bit, although he has been drinking normally. Isn't that typically a sign of dehydration or could it mean something else? Thank you.

I know that it is a sign of dehydration, it could also be a sign of something else but I am not sure I am not an expert

Deflecting heat.... Seems to be changing colors appropriately

He did a new thing today. He opened his mouth then started contorting his body side to side. Then in a gagging fashion, he stuck his tongue out like so. He has never done this inside his enclosure only outside.

I've seen chameleons do this before and it usually has a bad outcome but I'm not sure what causes it. I think you need to take it to a vet asap. I'm not a vet...it's just my opinion.
