Hello All !

Just made some huge headway this week with the my little Vieled. He was born March 21st and has been with me since last Monday. He was very shy at first however I live in a Bachelor style apartment with his enclosure set in my sitting area. I have done this so he will see me everyday waking back and forth and hopefully get more comfortable with me. This has totally worked he no longer jets to the back of the cage whenever I am near and he shows no signs of immediate threat or fear. I also try to leave the door to the enclosure fully open whenever safe and possible. I totally realize Chameleons do not liked to be handled I mean I would love that but am not at all expecting that. I only am looking to gain trust. I want him to realize I bring tasty treats and he is slowly getting there I think. I have purchased a pair of feeder tongs and have been trying to feed the first Cricket of the day to him buy hand. He has yet to take a cricket but I have also bought some small Superworms and as soon as I put one on the Tongs he comes a running and eats it with little hesitation. I think I am on the right tack ? I just need to show him I mean no harm he seems to be warming up everyday. I have not yet tried to handle him and don't think he is ready. I also want to create a free range outside of his enclosure so he can climb even higher and enjoy at his own leisure. I will continue to try the Cricket hand fed every day until he hopefully takes one ? I only give the Superworms as treats he has only had 2 so far its his first week being introduced to them but he seems to love em ! Please give me any tips or tricks so I can make this little guy happy I would ultimately like him to be tame enough that he actually comes looking for food when I open the enclosure. Thanks Guys !!

It sounds like you are doing everything well! To hand feed I would put a worm or roach into a cup and holding the cup below my chameleon, and this seemed to work well. Eventually I was able to hold a worm in my palm and he would take it out of my hand. He is now very friendly, and loves coming out of his cage.
Every chameleon is different. Good luck!

I leave my cage open often and I hand feed mine and she is used to taking it from my hand but reluctant to let me handle her. Any suggestions on what I should do?
