handling a 3 month old panther, help

i have a 3 month old panther chameleon, i want him to be as friendly as posable, i been hand feeding him, letting him take the crickets out if my hand and he has no problem with that. the first time i took him out, i used a stick and let him walk up on to it, he freaked out when he left the cage and jumped. 2 days later i did the same thing and he didnt jump at fist but when he got to my hand he jumped again. i tried a few more time in the last week and same result. can any one help me find a way that he wont freak when he gets to my hand. is this just the young age?

Since he's so young I wouldn't be handling him at all unless absolutely necessary, especially since you're probably stressing him out and jumping is definitely not good!

It'll be a very slow process, your cham doesn't know if you're going to eat him or just gently handle him. Take it slow and just slowly get him used to your hand and watch for signs of stress. Some chams just aren't friendly and some people never even handle their chams. I'd just keep things slow and let him get used to your hand near him every day.

I had worked with one incredibly agressive male that I worked with for 6 months who ended up being like a puppy dog. He used to bite and become super stressed. So my advice is to just kept his cage open when you're in the room and get him used to you. Every day you may notice him becoming slightly more comfortable. Just my opinion. Good luck!

I agree. And keep hand feeding him as well.. He will learn when your around that food will be there too! I have never really seen an aggressive panther before. Veileds are nasty mean though.

Yeah just give him time to get to recognize you. I was worried about the same thing. I imagined us running through flower fields together but that will take some time.

I have a 3.5 month old TERROR when it comes to handling.... I dont anymore for now. But I am going to give him his time and space to mature and become comfortable then I will attempt again in like a month or so. Mine lunges at me...

I got mine at 3 Months I waited a week b4 I started to handle him. After that week I tried hand feeding him and he would not eat from me but I could pick him up he was a little scared at first but then settled down I would just stick my hand in and slowly put my finger under his chin and rise my hand up he would then come on my hand. Now he finally eats out of my hand and he knows when I'm gonna feed him he comes right over and just sits at the opening of the cage. I then feed some with my hand and put the rest in the cage. He's now 6 months old and supper nice!

I got my panther about a month ago (he was almost 2 months back then), and I've handled him almost every day. Guess I'm lucky, I just get my hand near him and he climbs on.
try to let him crawl around his enclosure first, and if you handle him try to be close to his enclosure, just in case he tries to reach out to it. mine does that some times

I usually start trying to handle my panthers at around the five-six month mark as they aren't as fragile. I just hand-feed them until they are large enough.
