hanging plants

Hello, I'm new to chams here been doing allot of reading past few months. Just got my cage and stuff got complete setup from a site, no cham yet as i want to get it all setup ect. first. Now my question is in hanging my pothos, as i dont wanna muck up my screened cage by putting holes in it that will end up being in the wrong spot or whatever. Seeing as how there are so many people on here that know what they are talking about and have "lived and learned" with there cham setups:D So if i could get some ideas or pics of some of the different ways some of you all have hung your plants in screened cages. Thanks, and Great site by the way tons of great info here and good peeps. Keep up the good work :D

wife has the cam in her car, and she is at work. Doh  i'll post some pics when she gets home, but i got the Medium 14-item setup from here http://www.chameleonsonly.com/chameleon_cages_starter_kits.htm
So far I have a Schefflera arboricola, and a pothos for live plants. have some Exo-Terra Bendable Jungle Vines of diff sizes 6 in total on the way. Also planning on getting the Ultimate Misting System from Mist King, and a Solarmeter Model 6.2 once i get paid this month :p Will still be a month or two before I get a Cham, and the lil guy is not ready yet. I want everything set up and going as far as plants, lighting, misting (the water has to go somewhere lol) ect. Thanks for any ideas as far as hanging a plant in that cage from the link i gave, i'll be sure to post some pics soon as wife gets home with the cam :p

All my Pathos are held up by 25 pound test fishing line. You tie the fishing line into 3 (or 4) of the corners, it will thread through the screen, so you don't get holes. Just drill holes in the top edge of the plant pot.

The challenge is to tie all of the lines so the plant hangs straight. It really helps if there are 2 of you to do the tying.

I like this because I have NOTHING on my floor for easy cleaning and no hiding places for feeders. It also makes visitors wonder how you make the plant float in the air....:D

To attach branches to the screen and get no holes, position the branch and use a thumb tack in each end.;)

great idea, and i did not even get as far as the vines on the side yet lol Thanks allot for great ideas. Keep em coming, know I still have lots to learn  *goes to garage to look for tackle box* :p

Great technique Nick. Beats mine.

I run four fake vines to a pot that I've drilled several small holes into around the rim; I zip-tie the pot to the vines. Put the plant in a pot the same size and screen and rock that. The plant pot sits inside the other pot snugly so it won't fall out, but I can still take it out, if need be. In-elegant though. Looks clunky.

Eventually the real vines can be trained on the fakes if you like, to improve the appearance.

I use a pvc pipe that's a hiar bigger then the width of the cage....so it has enough room to overlap the sides of the cage on both sides....lay it on the top of the cage....atach wire and cut a hole through the sreen mesh...atach wire and feed it through the hole....hang your plant on the wire( wich is doubled up emencley and rapped around the pvc pipe a lot of strenght)...and there you go. The pvc distributes the wieght on the 2 side supports evenly from the wieght of your plant pulling it down. And the pvc doesent roll because of the gravity on it

Well took few ideas from here, added my own with the clips there to take the plant out. Thanks Allot!! Great Ideas:D Got cam from wife so here are the pics I promised. Still not it's final spot gonna be a month or two till it sees any cham. Going to be getting Mist King and gonna make some kind of stand with a plastic drawer from walmart, saw a nice "how to" here https://www.chameleonforums.com/cage-plans-2x2x5ft-wooden-cage-33813/ (Thanks for that by the way ;) ) that i can make work great I think. Any other ideas or input would be awesome, Thanks again!!

What luck, this is exactly what I was going to ask about. What great ideas! For my cage what I'd done was buy those plant stands from any gardening store and just get a really tall one for my pothos and a shorter one for my umbrella plant. It keeps the plants off the floor and is still very easy to clean around. But I wanted to find out how to hang more plants so the cage could be bushier without buying more stands (Which wouldn't fit anyway).

This is perfect, I'll go over to get some plants and some fishing line sometime this week :D

By the way, your cage is looking good Time420 :)

I use the rod spanned over the top of the cage method... or have used that method. If you have a shelf over the cage you could put a hook on the shelf and tie off to it as well.

hmm, wanted those to be able to take plant in and out for cleaning. I'll keep and eye out for something else, or move those to lower by the pot. Any other ideas on ways to make that removable without making it look like food?

for a future cage

since your talking about a mist system and a drawer to catch water and a future cage go in my profile and click on my friend mwheelocks profile go to his statistics and his photo gallery he made an amazing drain system for a misting system the drains made out of a cement mixing tub with some pvc in it and it drains down into a 5 gallon bucket in a cabinet below im in the process of building one i just got all the 2x4s together and primered them with mold resistant kilz

I don't have it set up yet but have posted half complete photos in other threads (guess I'll do so again here because I'm very happy with this find). It is an expanding twig plant stand where the pothos pot sits in the middle and can climb up and hang down. It expands based on the diameter of the pot so a larger pot will make the stand shorter and wider. Found it at a local nursery and tracked down the manufacturers web site (48 inch high cost me $19) http://www.everbloomingcompany.com/catalog/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=1000
I just need to wait for my cham to grow into this enclosure and get myself a pothos.
