I messed around with those enough to just buy a humidifier.
These things have to be a certain distance under the water surface to perform properly. You can make a floater to achieve this.
I'd also cover the container because touching it will shock the animal and it also 'throws' out drips which will make a nice swamp in a glass enclosure eventually.
