He doesn't like being outside?

Since it's been nice out lately I've started putting Espio outside in the sunshine on his plant from the terrarium. I put part of it in the sun and part in the shade so he can control his temperature. He seems to hate it though. He will move to the shade even if its only 75-80 degrees outside. Our balcony is enclosed so there are no predators that could get him. I thought chameleons loved being outside in nature. Will he get used to it at all or should I just give up and keep him in his terrarium?

What kind of chameleon? What are the temps inside your cage? It might be that the temps are high enough in the shade. Also, how big is the tree and what is going on around him? He might be scared and looking for safety. There is also the chance that you just have a strange chameleon ;)

it could be a matter of him feeling comfortable. I built outdoor cages for our boys, but one of them was always terrified of the outdoors. We would put him in the cage and he would sit there like a statue all stiff for hours. I added some foliage to help him feel secure and he eventually got used to it. Now he is all over his cage. It took a few weeks for him to get used to it though. My boys spend about 4 days a week outside now that the weather is nice.

Yea it took mine a few months to get used to him being outside. it takes time for them to get used to the open like that. just have patience and he will get used to it.
