Heat Bulb Exploding?

Has anyone ever had their heating bulb (or any bulb) explode before? Mine just did while the enclosure was being misted. I'm not sure if the water was just too cold, but even if it was it's not like much gets directly onto the bulb. Is this something that is common? It was a Zoo Med 75w basking bulb. Nothing got in the enclosure thankfully, but it scared the crap out of me.

apparently the misting did cause enough of a temperature drop to cause it to burst.

I never had it happen before but it's not unheard of.

I have had it happen to me a couple times. It seems like actual basking bulbs are more likely to do it, since that has been the only thing that has ever done it with me.

Is there a solid alternative to basking bulbs to recude the chances of this occuring in the future?

I use just regular house bulbs, a lot of people do here. 60-100 watt house bulbs will get you the same temps as a reptile basking bulb.

I use halogen bulbs that are encased in glass. They seem to be splash proof so far for the last 3-4 years ive been running them.

This type comes with and without a "lens" for lack of a better term that prevents you from touching the bulb.

Stupid EU banned all normal bulbs of 75, 60, 40 watts I have to buy stupid basking bulbs for like 3x the price.:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad: oh and .

This causes all the need for signage and rallying in front of... where ever controls the lighting of the EU XD

I heard they were doing this. I have a "private collection" of bulbs that I purchased prior to them being wiped off the shelf at retail stores. I own several 75W, 100W 150W and even the "holy grail" - 200W incandescent bulbs. I also bought several of the lamp dimmers to use with these to fine tune the temps.

You still may be able to find them, I believe they are listed in some places as utility bulbs or something, but the price has gone up the last time I checked. (a few years ago) I bought all my bulbs, even the 200W for about $2 each from Kmart, Lowes or some other big box store.

It's a crap rule and a perfect example of what's wrong with the EU...
If you can buy a LED lamp for 4 bucks that lives 100x as long as your 2 bucks 75W lamp and gives the same quality light you're gonna buy the LED unless you have a reason to buy the 75Watt instead, right? So what's the point of the ban?

I think it was all sort of done to increase the efficiency and energy usage, not so much cost. LED lamps of equal wattage (actual not claimed) are still IMO behind incandescent. At least to my eyes. Those that do perform (perceived output to my eyes) like regular bulbs cost much more than the incandescent version. Just my 2 cents.
